I'm struggling to understand what you mean?

Your sentiment is shared by others, namely: that the current mob are somehow WORSE than Fitzgerald/ Overton?

Please explain exactly how? These blokes make more money than anyone else, spend cash chasing big name players, spend cash retaining promising juniors, and don't cry poor and waste all their time overseas at pokie conventions.

I suppose it's unfair to say they're doing a great job - but when you compare it to having (imo) a lying mongrel who would say/do anything to penny pinch --> what's the big problem? Fitzy was hopeless, anything is better.
I still fail to see how they qualify for any acolades so far. Just as dodgy as Fitzy and the only success on the field was due to one freak player over 15 weeks in 2009.

People need to put their boners away cos it's getting a little weird.

They've brought us a good coach and good players, and gotten rid of a lot of bad attitudes in the club.

Surely they deserve some credit for that.

Good coach? Yet to be determined!

Willie Tonga is the only player I would call good, Sandow most certainly had his best year, no doubting that but he still hasn't lead a team to the finals and went MIA the week before their most important game of the year.......

Hopoate will be away from the game for 2 years, obviously we threw more money than Manly were willing to gamble on an unknown in 2 years.

As for the attitude, we were once again diabolical in games this year, even with he apparent change in discipline at the club.

All the talk is great, everything right is being said and it appears we are heading in the right direction if you believe everything that is being said from people in the know, however, nothing is proven yet and the results that matter say we came 14th and we turned in some of the worst performances I have ever seen!

SK now has to prove he is a good coach, he has the platform, the players and support of the board, anything other than a top 8 finish is a failure (baring crucial injuries, of course).

In saying that, I am very excited about next year and hope the coaching staff learnt a lot from this year and adapt accordingly!

Well prior to that we had Brian Smith, and an NRL premiership coach and an ESL premiership coach. I wouldn't say that chopping players who were past it or a few players in reggies as genius. Tahu self destructed an Guru couldn't/wouldn't keep up with pre-season training.

We might be pointed in the right direction, but that doesn't mean we won't get lost like this year. We've signed some players, but that's what the salary cap does. It tends to help the nuffy clubs like us.

Yeah but what about all the other players with bad attitudes SK has cleaned out such as Webb, Walker, and Whaturia. You forgot about them.

Why would you be excited if you didn't think we had a good coach and players?

They've all already proven their quality, no matter how much you try to downplay it.

You are hilarious, so I would be negative if I wasn't excited and so I say I'm excited and you still find something negative in that? Really?

Again, you are hilarious

I hope they go to the expense of printing and mailing a 16 page findings report to all club members prior to the next Board elections, just like they did with their internal review of the coaching situation... One could argue that an investigation into the performance of the CEO and the probity of the (elected) Board is more important than selling the decision to pay out a coach a year early.

How long do you guys think the investigation will take?
Also will it be a costly exercise?

don't know, but I'm sure there's a story right there...

one thing that the latest board always promised was transperancy in what ever they do so no doubt the findings of the report or the important details will be released to media outlets when it's ready, it was difficult for the old board to do that when the CEO at the time pulled the strings.

we beat grandfinalists Warriors in their own backyard and were 3 mins away from doing the same to the Premiers. With the squad we had and the fact that something like 6 players left the club during the season, we didn't do too bad.

Look at the Bulldogs or Roosters for massive failures this season or even Titans who were top 4 last season.

With no halves and no backs, we obviously didn't score many points and couldn't put enough pressure on the opposition and that put more pressure on our defence

That doesn't take into account we lost to some of the s**tier sides like Raiders, Roosters, Souths (x2), Bulldogs (x2), and Panthers (x2). I'm sure fans of the Bulldogs, Roosters, and Titans can think of plenty of reasons to sugercoat their disappointing seasons too. I can think of reasons why they struggled just like us but we failed equally as much as, not less, than they did.

f**k we are stretching it when we say we beat the grandfinalist - that was in the friggin FIRST round where teams are just beginning to get into the groove. Its not as if we beat them in the mid to late rounds.

Well prior to that we had Brian Smith, and an NRL premiership coach and an ESL premiership coach.

Convenient labels which fail to mention that two of those blokes no longer have club jobs and after all these years, one of them is still Brian Smith.

That's three examples of failure right there.

I wouldn't say that chopping players who were past it or a few players in reggies as genius. Tahu self destructed an Guru couldn't/wouldn't keep up with pre-season training.

And neither was pandered to. Both were let go despite us being short of quality.

That might have hurt us in the short term but in the long run it forges a club spirit, and reinforces Kearney's authority.

But the real bad attitudes that the current board allowed to leave are Inu and Mateo; two players who never strung good seasons together back-to-back.

We might be pointed in the right direction, but that doesn't mean we won't get lost like this year.

We didn't get lost this year; we overcame adversity and built for the future. That's why we're excited about next year.

We've signed some players, but that's what the salary cap does. It tends to help the nuffy clubs like us.

The salary cap has never done us any favours in the past.

That said, it's because we refused to rebuild, and kept trying to band-aid over our squad problems. For the past ten years our recruitment history has been an endless parade of stop-gap signings.

So no, the salary cap hasn't done us any favours before. We had to hit rock bottom before this club could be rebuilt.

I agree Poupou. Ando releasing Inu and Mateo was a wise move and has allowed us to rebuild.
Short term pain for long term gain.
