Crisis rocks Parramatta club as director quits

PARRAMATTA'S board is moving to dismiss chief executive Paul Osborne on Monday after its members met yesterday to finalise an investigation into the dealings of the club's under-fire boss.
The Herald has been told Osborne is set to be removed on Monday, when the board meets again, following an investigation into financial irregularities and the CEO's alleged harassment of staff at the club. While club officials put off a board meeting, planned for this week, until Monday, it is understood some or all of the directors met away from Parramatta Leagues Club yesterday, and sealed Osborne's fate.
Osborne had taken leave as the investigation into him took place, but returned to work this week. He was absent from work yesterday. It is not known whether he met with board members.

The Herald revealed last month that Osborne had borrowed a large sum of money from the club chairman, Roy Spagnolo. Osborne was also required to repay the club $35,000 which was racked up on his club credit card. Osborne started to come under pressure when Glenn Duncan, head of the club's major sponsor, Pirtek, resigned from the board.
Directors are concerned they will lose Pirtek's million-dollar-a-year sponsorship should Osborne retain his position.

I thought we had a sponsor who was worth MORE than 1 mill per year just waiting to take over if Pirtek couldn't front up with the cash?

At least that's what THE HERALD reported...

PARRAMATTA have a major sponsor ready to fill the breach with a massive deal worth $6.5 million over five years should Pirtek part company with the club.

So now we're worried about losing Pirtek?!?

What the heck is going on!

Or maybe we never had a bigger and better sponsor lined up and our stupid Board decided to play the bluff game in the media with a $1M sponsor ?

Yep. As soon as DF and Pirtek are gone the bank will step in. All is rosey.

Well if they did, then the Herald bought it hook line and sinker. And if they are now contradicting their earlier report, then you're suggesting they now know there is NO bigger sponsor?

Either they have info or they don't surely? Either way we're not going to know until something definitive is revealed!

Let's hope it's all resolved on Monday. History would suggest however that it will drag on and maybe even involve litigation.

I reckon like most of their 'inside information', they've got something, but they don't know if it's true.

These half stories they keep printing are as much to fish for more information as they are to titilate the gossiping bogan that constitutes the bulk of their target audience.

Dude I hardly think that the SMH/The Age's target audience is "gossiping bogans". Perhaps you're getting it confused with the Murdoch rags, Telecrap, Herald Sun etc ?

In the case of the SMH I'm mostly referring to their league section.

But there is an entire class of bogans who don't realise they're bogans, and would be horrified if they knew. For these luminaries the SMH is one of the symbols they consume in their desperate attempts to appear 'not bogan'.

It is precisely this quality - spending money on 'image' - that consigns these wretches to join their fellows in the masses of the ignorant, grasping middle classes. Bonus points if the money they spend to appear cultured is money they haven't yet earnt.

For the record, yes I'm a bogan. And I read both papers.

so how did the SMH get wind of a non-official meeting and what they decided? :?

They most likely didn't and that's why this failed attempt at a story doesn't have 'exclusive' written all over it. It would appear that they know they won't get the scoop. so they fired their last shot into the air with their blindfolds on hoping to hit a target that's not moving in their direction.

Osborne gone, never to return.

Next.
Nice call there Informer, a good 3 days before this published article reveals Ossie's days as Football CEO are looking numbered...

Looks like even with the famed quest to topple DF over for more than two years now, there still remain other factions at large inside our club, who choose to leak to the media?

I just hope they get whatever is going on over with asap while Manly are hogging all the headlines... our latest "crisis" may well slip under the media radar that way.
