the comments re the marketing are of great interest to me , could thiose critical of the sharks marketing elaborate on their posts.
what isnt being done and or what should be done.
i d be very interested in your thoughts.
Wasn't targeting marketing, Pogo. But since you ask, the product is the problem - doesn't live up to the marketing.
Exactly, Pogo. Like I said, I wasn't targetting marketing. But the examples I mentioned certainly have a negative effect on effective marketing. It's all tied in, I guess. e.g. if a person is attracted to a game by marketing and then some negative aspects of the time spent turn that person off the occasion we may never see that person again. Marketing has to attract patrons but then must also endeavour to ensure that those patrons are mentally and physically comfortable enough to keep on returning. Sort of like the after care on serviced products, I guess.
On a lighter side: the worst effort on customer comfort I ever saw at the football was many, many years ago at Leichhardt Oval when you had to wade through a flood of urine in the gent's toilet. Maybe that had Kevin Humphreys or Keith Barnes tearing their hair out - or maybe they couldn't give a stuff.

Pogo, surely you are not insulting us by suggesting that the players walking around the ground after each home match, and their relocation to shark park for training is the brainchild of marketing ?

On is something the players have always done for at least 7 years to show their appreciation to home crowds, the other is a direct result of our coaching staff changing.

If you are trying to make us believe marketing is going well and actually thought up those things then you are either dreaming, or working for the bumbling farcical clowns that are our marketing team.

AN article in todays paper suggested that a major sponsor of the club had a nightmare time at the home game last week, times are not good at marketing level and its a disgrace to watch for those of uis that love our club, perhaps they should all be sacked and people who actually love the club and have marketing nouse given the jobs,

all Fisks hard work thrown away in a few years by Longmuir and his bumbling idiots.

Oh come off it Beeker.

That "article" in the paper was practically word for word what you wrote last week after the Cowboys debacle and printed in the gossip column written by Rebecca Wilson, a low grade hack who has been proven to lift "scoops" off the forums and do no checking of their accuracy.

Using crap evidence like that does nothing but hurt what is a strong arguement.

As to the catering at the ground last week it was disgraceful. I took my 4 year old and the best thing I could find for her to eat was a bucket of chips.

Then they charged me $9 for a bucket of chips, a barely warm pie and a bottle of water.

He doesn't work for them. I doubt he is suggesting that either.

a lot of the posts are critical of things not related to the marketing dept, eg catering, ground/crowd control etc.
the poor efforts in those areas do affect the marketing.
i am NOT suggesting marketing is firing just asking a few questions re what posters consider id the status quo.
its pretty evident that the concensus feels they are not performing that well.
to my view this area is crucial to the clubs success, but sometimes and i feel this is the case currently, the board members may not be blessed with experience or skills in this area and dont recognize what can be done, ie they rely on marketing , similarly a non financially trained manager relies on an accountant.
as a matter of fact there are many opportunities being missed , many blatantly obvious, however having worked in this area i understand that getting the job done sometimes needs support and input from all areas, maybe as was the case at cronulla in the past its not there, or the people at the top dont fully understand the role .

Well, I'd call Toyota/Lexus a pretty MAJOR sponsor, wouldn't you?

I was sitting close to their boxes, well within earshot in fact, at the Cowboys match, and they were NOT happy campers at all.

In any case, it appears many of the smaller sponsors were unhappy too. The combined contribution these small businesses make is JUST as important to the sucess of the club as the contributions made by Toyota and LG, etc.

Pj and SS, I doubt the article was lifted from here by the Journo . Firstly, I made no inference in my posts about being a sponsor at all, much less a major one. ( wish I had the $$ to be just that though ! ) and it also said that the paper had BEEN CONTACTED.

of course that could be just a guise to hide the fact she just gets stories from this forum !

First point Beeker is that I didn't say you did say you were a sponsor, but there was definately reference on this forum that sponsors weren't happy with the services on the night against the Cowboys.

The 2nd point is probably tongue in cheek because when she was fronted with the news that the person who posted on here about the Swans made it up she another person also contacted her. Now what is the likelihood that someone makes up a story at the same time something the same occurs? About as likely as Rebecca or the Black Hole of sports journalism, Mr Weidler, winning an award for professionalism.

I think the marketing department is on fire.
Especially after seeing that sign they bought from the RTA 1980's surplus equipment that they set up near the round about that "clicked" over & said, "Visit the new Sharkies"

A couple of quotes from Beeker from the "Ultimate Insult THread"

First

"Last night was a debacle everywhere, not just on the pitch, the Catering in all the corporate boxes was a disgrace abd the sponsors refused to eat it, longmuir and his yes men didnt know where to look or run."

And then

"I was in the corporate boxes in the ET stand ( snob, i know ! ) and it sucked. there was almost a mutiny by the coroporate sponsors. these boxes go for about $24,000 a year. on the lower level alone there are 12 boxes, so that was close tp $300,000 of pissed off corporate support on saturday night because it was a farce. noy isolated to one or two boxes, the entire hallway behind was filled with box holders speaking to and complaining to staff, the caterer was in tears, the sharks marketing staff was speachless and had as many ideas as our attack on the field, and their chief, scooty Longmuir was nowhere to be found."

So whilst you didn't make an inference you were one, you said you were there.

And what was written in these pages certainly sounds like what dear Rebecca wrote. I'm not saying it didn't happen, and I'm not saying someone didn't contact the trollop, but I really think the most likely scenario is the bottom feeder was trolling through here and thought it would make a nice add on to her gossip column.

And either way quoting either Tweedle Dum from the Tele or Tweddle Dummer from the Herald adds no weight or credibility to any arguement unless it is pro 163rd trimester abortions.

She may well have lifted it from hear mate, but I didn't need to qoute her article in order to get my point across anyway, The fact sponsors are pissed off has been talked about here by me , and others for the past 2 weeks.

I think you missed the point Beeker.

It's a strong arguement that is weakened by using tools like Rebecca as a reference point.

that was my point beeks
i wasnt having a dig at you, i was saying simply that i think she got the story from this forum like she has done in the past

she's also made stories up (nigel vagana telling friends he wont play with sharks if chris anderson isnt the coach...nige says he's never met ando, and well, he's playing for us now eh?)

or used extremely dodgy sources (some anonymous punter emailer telling her that a sydney swan refused to accept a fine at circular quay station...that was nothing short of libel in my opinion)

at best she's inefficient at her job and should be sacked, at worst she's a liar with an axe to grind.
