We need Frenzy to let us know how many we normally get to a Cowboys game.

I wasn't surprised it was a crap crowd but did expect more than were there.

I actually think it will be less this week, 5:30 is a dog of a time for a game.

Wasn't targeting marketing, Pogo. But since you ask, the product is the problem - doesn't live up to the marketing. Signs all over state the game, time and who is the BAIT. Doesn't take much to figure that the bait isn't the opposition teams. Let's hope the playing standard lifts to make the marketing claims true.
Further, I do believe the Sharks overall standards have slipped since Gow was knifed.

Still, I won't have to suffer long. Leaving town for a few months on the weekend. Let's hope I can use my season pass to early buy seats for a Sharks playoff. Pity I'll miss the voting and the AGM though.

I reckon the marketing team could be a lot better. They really need to pick their game up

The Mermaids are their best tool and they never use them. There should be calenders and posters of them everywhere.

And the players too. The Cowboys have just put out a calendar of their players.

It is basically a model that should be used in marketing schools about how NOT to market a very viable and marketable company.

Where does one begin ?

PM me pogo and I will speak to you about it directly, it has been covered in many other topics ad nauseum.

Sure thing. Pogo. A couple'll do:
- playing standard has slipped markedly
- continual negative press
- Development application is going at a snails pace. I believe if Gow had've had his go the development would be underway already
and a couple of lesser ones:
- shutting the Summertime Bar toilets so the Gent's toilet on game nights has a queue now just like the Ladies. With the reduced crowds this may cease to be a problem
- banning smoking in the open air (which to me is ridiculous) but when I lobbed to my Reserved Seat last Saturday night a cigarette butt had been stubbed out on my seat
- I also take offence at being searched when I enter the ground when it has been obvious in the past that more aggressive types (Bulldog Army) haven't been e.g. incident with Peach. Add to this reports from last year that Season Ticket Holders lost their seats to bullies and not assisted by staff. I guess this riddle applies here:
`Q: Why do animal liberationists attack people wearing fur but not people wearing leather
A: Because it's easier to bully elderly women than a gang of bikers.'

On the plus side, the club renovations are a marked improvement and the Bistro meals are great.
Hey, you sound to me like you are a committeeman or in the club's management. Tell me? Years ago we had a few shops e.g. ET's Gym, a hairdresser, etc. The lower ground floor of the club seems to see very little action. Why not start something like that up again.

popper, most of the issues you raise are NOT the responsibility of the marketing team
the real change in the marketing direction this year has been the efforts to re inforce or reinvent the local team theme.
the re naming of the leagues club sharkies along with the push to sell the team to the shire again.
relocating back to endeavour whoops shark park for training etc and the walk around the ground after each home game to win back the fan support after the ca years.
i think there is a lot more to come and the result last nite might help fastrack some of that.
stu rapers public elation after last nites game will help enormously, have a look at the supportive posts appearing on this site, fans will warm to the team if this enthusiasm is repeated and the marketing task will be easier as a result.

Well here's an idea. I have a mate at work who's a Collingwood supporter, each year as a member of their supporters club they receive a litle package of goodies, team magazine stuff like that, and a supporters cap saying something like "2004 Collingwood Supporters Club" on the front.

Compare this to what I received as a season seat holder, a Poncho, a bumper sticker that just seems to be advertising season seats. Pathetic. Even last year was better with the Key Ring with the season draw on it. which was quite useful.

Now a cap retails for about $20 so probably costs less than $10. Include a special cap with the Season seat/Supporters club package, make the cap unique (you can't but them) and you'll have people thinking they're getting good value for their money, even if you bump up the price by $10 to cover the costs.

They'll become collectors items and people will be joining just to get the special cap each year.
