Rooster 4th? Wow....

Our games against Manly, Brisbane and even the Dragons were affected by rain......conservatively cost us 10k fans over the 3 games meaning our average could be up around the 23k mark so far.

But I guess we still have no fans......

PS - Understand other clubs have been affected too, but an average over over 20k makes some of the comments about Rooster crowds seem a bit silly.

FFS, Manly Penrith and Cronulla. Have you seen their averages?

Our average should improve. Our home games so far this year have been Knights, Sharks, Raiders and Storm, all traditionally low drawing teams. We still have Eels, Bulldogs, Souths, Tigers and Warriors to come, with only the Cowboys game in round 16 left as a traditionally low drawing game. Our average will be down on last year due to how rubbish we are, but it should improve significantly on 10k.

.

broncos crowds are pathetic considering they have the whole city to themselves.

get another team in there quick. i'd assume there would be tens of thousands of people in brisbane that can't stand the broncos otherwise they'd be at the games.

Thanks Macca.

Here's one taken from about 10m from the end of the NW section.

do you get binoculars with your membership? Thought from the other shots I was looking at GWS new AFL ground! What's with keeping it oval, do they play AFL or cricket there?

It wouldn't work.

The Brisbane public are just sh*t at turning out to club games. It's just how it is.

I know because I'm one of them. I hate going to games live, you get a much, much better view on TV.

if suncorp is comparable to the sfs, and by all accounts it is or even better, than it's a great place to watch rugby league. every seat should be a great view.

the broncos have failed miserably. time to let another team get a cut of the brisbane pie.

That seems to ring true for RL fans generally it would seem.

Its a tiny but very historic oval. St George was the Sydney county club that Bradman played for. He lived in Rockdale.

They play soccer and cricket there as well as RL, but it isn't really big enough for cricket - in surface area is smaller than the caketin in Wellington, which is tiny for a cricket ground. You are much closer to the ground than any seat at ANZ stadium, and closer behind the goals than at the SFS (where you are roughly 30m from the try line).

If you had been there you would know this though.

Thought from the other shots I was looking at GWS new AFL ground!

It's oval shaped but nowhere big enough to play a fully fledged AFL game and could only fit a cricket game at a stretch (it's smaller than North Sydney Oval.

Middle of the field to the furthest seat on the 50 metre line is around 75m (western side). Middle of the field to the furthest spot on the hill is around 80m. That's about the same as the half way up the second tier at the SFS or the back of the first tier at ANZ.

Going the other direction, the seats directly behind the goals at Kogarah are a similar distance from the middle of the field compared to the SFS and closer than ANZ.

What's with keeping it oval, do they play AFL or cricket there?

Two things.

1. Construction and finance. Unless you have an economical way of moving an existing grandstand structure and associated plumbing, electrics and fitout forward 10-20 metres the western grandstand always has to be where it is.

2. It's a community asset and is used by various local community organisations. Some of these organsations are schools and schools use the oval shape to facilitate athletics.

Don't get me wrong, the stadium is fantastic. It's as good as any stadium I've been in. But if I really care about the game, the only view that is good enough for me is on TV. I'll go along to a game I don't care about for a few beers and a laugh, but there is no stadium on earth that can give you a better viewing experience for our sport than TV.

I know I'm certainly not the only one who feels this way and it's a big reason why the crowd numbers don't reflect the popularity of our sport.

Agree in some ways, but aside from the atmosphere there are a fair few things you get out of the live experience you don't get on TV. Most importantly I think you get a fuller appreciation for the physicality of the sport live than you do on TV. Seeing Uate wind up and bowl over some hapless defender is best seen with your own eyes imo. You get more appreciation for the depth of a defensive/offensive line, and a better appreciation of how the defense/go forward of each side is aiming up. You also get a better appreciation for how badly the ref is screwing you in the 10 meters ;)

That said I think your point is more a matter of how good the game is on TV rather than a poor live experience. You definitely need a good ground/seat to make the most of it too. ANZ for example, is a shit place to watch footy as many have noted.

As far as I know St George cricket play at Hurstville Oval

It is also used for school athletics carnivals
