I'm pretty sure last year it took a fair while into the season before we got a crowd below 10K (maybe Round 10-ish?) I think it was the record...Timmah might recall

New St Helens Stadium, with capacity of 18k, nearly 8k of which is standing

Halton Stadium in Widnes, with capacity of 13k

City of Salford Stadium, with capacity of 12k

They might be a bit more moden than Leichhardt and Brookvale, but only the new St Helens Stadium would be acceptable to the NRL.

Even the major modern grounds that are shared with soccer, while probably better than the average Sydney suburban ground, are nothing compared to the major urban and regional grounds that NRL clubs play out. Grounds like KC, DW, etc are compare poorly with AAMI Park, Robina, Ausgrid, etc and that's before you hit the big three, ANZ, Suncorp and the SFS.

Eels and Bunnies won't be a good crowd sadly, both teams look exactly the same as last season and i can sense some fans of both teams giving up hope already even though its Still early in the season.

Can't see anymore then 14k

Round 6 when the Roosters v Raiders game drew 9,308.

Interesting stat. Of the 22 games that had crowds of less then 10,000 last season 15 of them come in the 2nd half of the season.

The roosters drew 28k against the Rabbits.

But of course your excuse will be weather and the fact it wasn’t a dogs home game. Well luckily for you guys, you play Souths in round 7 again so you should have no problem getting 30k plus...

Your point? Bulldogs drew 27K On a MONDAY Night last week in good conditions!!! On a good day the Souths V Bulldogs wouldn't get any less then 25K. This sunday on a fine day we'll drew 25K against the Rorters with about 1K of the crowd Roosters supporters.

No.

But Souths/Roosters rivalry has been going on since we began. Bulldogs/souths rivalry is hardly a showcase rivalry.

played in driving rain with live coverage on TV
& when both clubs had about half as many members as they do now

so your point was ?

Doesn't matter how many members they had at that time,a crowd of 10,670 between two of the most famous clubs in NRL history is disgraceful under any circumstances(Rain, hail or shine)

There were vicious thunderstorms right throughout the afternoon all across Sydney that particular Friday.

Only a f**king genius would have turned up.

Wasn't making any point, simply asking a question. blukablu said "the last three games at ANZ" but he missed that one. I think if we're going to discuss the "last three" Parra v Souths games at ANZ stadium, it might help if we actually were discussing the last three, and not just the last three decent crowds for the sake of argument.

Yes, it was pre game.

Main stands filled up a fair bit for kickoff but the concourse areas didn't.
Still can't believe so many showed up when it was so easy to watch on tv

Wasn't comparing it with the Emirates, but its definitely comparable to the standard stadia so prevalent across all the divisions.

Heh, yeah - the Emirates was what sprang to mind when I read the post!

There are, however, some other pretty nice grounds around; off the top of my head:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_of_Manchester_Stadium (Man City)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cardiff_City_Stadium (Cardiff)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madejski_Stadium (Reading)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ricoh_Arena (Coventry)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walkers_Stadium (Leicester)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reebok_Stadium (Bolton)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Trafford (Man Utd)

Now, I'm sure people might quibble about some of those, but in all seriousness they are pretty nice grounds.

But the Saints ground will have terracing, and that makes it better almost by default without even considering that Saints play there!

Except those grounds weren't built for RL (in the case of Doncaster and Hull), they were built for soccer primarily, which is why they justify it. There is a sense of 'keeping up with the Joneses' in stadia construction in England, everyone has been doing it so they follow suit. It (erroneously in most cases) supposedly gives the local team a better chance of climbing up divisions and sustaining success.

Naturally, in this country, we are far more concentrated in population. We already have large and (mostly) modernized stadia in areas where the teams play. There is no justification for any outlay.

They were built for joint usage and yes primarily for the number one code in that city. In terms of point two the distance between St helens, Wigan, Bolton, Liverpool etc is less than the Sydney suburbs with a similiar population. In the whole of Sydney you have two decent club grounds and one good finals ground. Its very poor compared to what the UK has managed to achieve in the North West in a similiar geographic area, especially when you consider the relative wealth of the two areas. if you were rating RL club grounds I would say it would be something like:

1. Suncorp
2. AAMI
3. KC
4. SFS
5. JJB
6. Galphram
7. Skilled Park
8. Newcastle
9. Parramatta
