15k for a team that has been last for the whole year is pretty good.

I think our crowd average may increase depending on the turnout for the Parra and Tigers games.

My Pax for the game vs Parra is 8375. So not bad for a presale, given we still have a week to go before that match kicks off.

Is it fair to say that the Roosters, Sharks and to some extent Manly have become victims over the years of a sort of gentrification of their fan catchments? I'm pretty sure the Bears and Tigers would have gone the same way...
Speaking for the Roosters - yes. More so than any other team has the demographic of our local area changed. Although our poor crowds this year would be as much to do with performance as well as the teams we've played at home.

The only large drawing Sydney team we've hosted so far is the Dogs and that was played on Monday night. Our next home game against a decent drawing team is Souffs next week....but guess what, it's on a Monday night again...

We have home games against Saints and the Tigers late in the season which will boost the average, especially if we can turn things around and be contending for ther 8 at that stage.

Next year we get the season opener against Souffs as a home game which normally draws mid 20's and ANZAC Day is also our home game so the average will be back to better levels in 2013.

Apparently if you have a nice house and good job you aren't interested in watching rugby league
Well probably less likely to be tempted to sit on a dirt hill and do so...
Thought he meant Chinese/Indian's/other Muslim type's who just like EPL.

I would hope so.

There tends to be a lull the week after Origins though so who knows.

I am a delusional idiot so I am going and telling myself we are not going to get belted etc. etc.

Good
Broncos: 33,600
Bulldogs: 23,000
Knights: 20,200
Warriors: 19,200
Dragons: 18,400
Tigers: 18,200
Souths: 16,800
Eels: 15,000

Bad
Cowboys: 14,700
Storm: 14,000
Manly: 13,600
Sharks: 13,200
Titans: 12,300
Panthers: 11,800
Roosters: 11,700
Raiders: 10,300

Brilliant piece of analysis this. 8 teams with the highest average are 'good', the rest are 'bad'.

Don't be silly, they're the best supporters pound-for-pound in the comp :sarcasm:

You still don't get it.

Compared to their past crowds, cowboys crowds are disappointing

Compared to the population of the town they represent, cowboys crowds are brilliant.

If the same proportion of people in Sydney attended league here compared to Townsville, we would have 360,000 fans through the gate each fortnight.

Exactly how can you compare those supporter bases in any fair manner though?

How the hell is this "pound-for-pound" crap any good measure of attendance?

Simple fact is that every fortnight anywhere from 125k to 200k attend NRL matches in Sydney - thats an enormous amount of people no matter how you cut it. If it was down to 1 or 2 teams, we're talking bumper crowds sometimes in excess of 50k with those figures (purely hypothetical of course, which is what this argument is based on)

It's not about comparing supporter bases. It's about comparing how many people attend league relative to the number of people living in that city. It's straight numbers.there is no arguing about it. Proportionally More people in Townsville attend than Sydney.

Sydney has 138,000 per fortnight From 4.5 million (3%)
Melbourne has 14,000 per fortnight from 4 million (0.35%)
Brisbane has 33,000 per fortnight from 2.1 million (1.5%)
Canberra has 10,000 per fortnight from 350,000 (2.8%)
Townsville has 14,000 per fortnight from 172,000 (8%)

And it's not the be all and end all of crowds, but it's an interesting measure. Just like hit ups aren't the only stat in rugby league to look at...but it's a relevant and interesting stat nonetheless

So pound-for-pound, Brisbane only beats Melbourne? :-k

Queensland, the "home of rugby league"...

Well yes actually considering the population of Brisbane and the amount of competition there the broncos crowds and membership numbers are both disappointing. Especially when you consider the fact that they have been by far the most succesful club since their inception.

Yes, exactly.

This stat actually puts Sydney and Canberra crowds in a more positive light than they normal get, esp when compared to Broncos.

We need a second team in Brisbane for sure.
