I'd like to see the Storm be able to draw more than 10k regardless of the opposition.
This is a fixture that was getting 10k at Olympic and still getting 10k now, that's a little disappointing.

Agreed with the lack of rivalry though, bit mystifying.

This is still Storms 4th best attended season so far. Hopefully Melbourne will finish above 14k all up, which would be in line with recent history. Some of the new stadium gloss might be coming down, which is to be expected. Also weather hasn't been kind at times this year.

there was very little "new stadium gloss" to begin with tbh. First few AAMI Park crowds were okay but they soon quickly settled into average. Not helped by the salary cap fiasco which coincided a month or so before the stadium's opening

It's an indoor game. Check the ticket prices ??

Yeah they also play 3/4 games a week, same as the NHL.... Their season is 86 games, then playoffs are 4 x best of 7....

But crowds in Sydney are more indicative of the fact that clubs in Sydney represent actual geographical areas.... Sharks Manly would get 20k at Toyota, and 20k at Brookie.... but only 3k would travel.... so thats 40k people willing to buy a ticket....

Having lived in Melbourne you cannot compare the two.... It's easier to get from Geelong to the MCG than from Manly to SFS, or Bondi to Homebush, or Penrith to Kogarah.... completely different type of market...

Only Geelong represents an actual area... Ask a Collingwood fan why they follow Collingwood and the answer 99% of the time will not be 'Because I grew up in Collingwood' it will be 'I randomly picked them, have no attachment to the area, but will still cry when they lose for some reason, oh and my cousin follows them maybe thats why, maybe he got me onto them'

Saw this posted elsewhere in a discussion regarding MLS in the US having a higher crowd average than the NHL and NBL.
These are the prices for Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL), who play in a venue that can hold 19k.

So pretty flipping expensive. I'd imagine that basketball prices wouldn't be all that much different.

Agreed.

Did i read correctly that one of the stands burnt down at the ground in hobart where this years trial was held?

2007: 11,711
2008: 12,474
2009: 11.978
2010: 14,670
2011: 14,246
2012: 13,794

Bolded: Storm at AAMI. The salary cap fiasco aside, the new stadium certainly lifted crowds, as could be expected. The positive thing is that Melbourne has more or less kept the bump it got steady. The difference between Olympic and AAMI is about 2,000 people from those figures.

Looks like the round will average sub 20k. Disappointing for a round that has both Canterbury and Brisbane hosting games.

The maple leafs have close to 4m people to buy those 19k tickets though and are the most profitable team in the nhl, the raptors tickets are cheap though

Is it really that hard to get from Manly to SFS, Parra to ANZ or Penrith to Campbelltown? Or is the reality fans just don't travel generally?
