Whether you like it or not it actually partly is about drinking beer. It’s called Australian culture. Nothing better than having a couple of beers before a game and then watching the footy with a couple more and a pie and chips.
:lol:

No, footy is about sitting in a seat, watching the match and if you're a supporter of one of the sides, cheering for that team.

Beer is a luxury, although some treat it as a necessity.

As a result, some take it too far and we end up with fights, abusive dickheads and people feeling uncomfortable.

You can say "harden up" all you like, but every paying spectator deserves to feel comfortable at the football. End of story.

I don't object to it being sold or consumed - I just don't understand this ridiculous pre-occupation with going to the footy and getting off-chops, making an idiot of yourself and not actually ending up either watching or remembering the game.

They built nightclubs and pubs for those experiences.

Its a rational strategy. Not only would it boost general admittance figures (and therefore total revenue) it would boost food and beverage returns, merchandising sales, and the overall NRL brand reputation. You dont even have to increase attendance by the full 25% for it make it worthwhile:
As long of the spending behviour of the new attendees is consistent with the exisiting attendees the maths are:

Gate reveneue reduced by 25% = Gate Revenue 75%
Additional Attendance: +15% = GAte Revenue +15%
Food and beverage = +15%
Merchandising = + 15%
PR = +intangible but positive
Security/Ground attendnts/Cleaning = -5%
Transport Links = better case for upgraded services long term

Many people spend more on food than on tickets!

That's what I figure too. It's just applying what Tinkler has done to the league as a whole.

No, they built Parra stadium for those experiences.

You don't understand why people object to being sold mid strength piss for $7 a cup?

I can understand why people object to the price. Solution - don't buy the shit.
Whilst having some beers as well as a pie and chips.
Do you support people getting plastered and making other people uncomfortable, causing a scene, getting thrown out etc?

I used to refer people to games when I worked at a hotel in Brisbane as something fun to do on a weekend. It is lacking though as I had to get all the info myself and then advise them whereas most other activities are detailed in pamphlets we had lying around.

Exactly - the Wall Of Leaflets at every Hotel - with everything to do in the area.

I think this whole Tourism angle is totally being ignored. People who come here are looking for things to do and this only takes a couple hours and is local and accessible. They should do package deals with Vouchers for some food and drinks at the game as well as the tickets and some little item of merchandise like a cap or a keyring etc

The Backpackers idea is great too. A few minibuses full of backpackers and good looking girls sitting in a group is TV Coverage GOLD. Then sell them the footage of them in the crowd on USB sticks so that they can email it to all of their friends back home and post it on Facebook. Lets get viral here boys and girls.

And maybe do an "Adopt a Club" thing so the Tourists can turn up to a game with someone to root for and a flag to wave.

It's pretty nasty when people get pissed and abusive around families and it's almost the lack of self-control that is the most disturbing aspect. I dunno, I feel you have a responsibility as a human to try your best not to grossly offend people in such situations.

There are a few initiatives up there for this game that will hopefully balance the ledger when it comes to getting a good crowd - the Knights are running free buses from somewhere (I can't remember) and they're using the weekend as a "massive Newcastle v Brisbane weekend", with the Jets and Roar playing the following night in the A-League.
That's a tremendous idea, building a rivalry. Easy to do when you own both clubs and all parties - Hunter Sports, Broncos, Roar, NRL and FFA would do well to incorporate that into their annual draws.

Pretty sure Easts have done something along these lines with the hostels in the Bondi/Coogee/Randwick areas....don't think they provided transport etc, but think they made the people staying at hostels aware of the game and I know they got a few there.

Marge: Last year you got a little rambunctious and mooned the poor umpire.
Homer: Marge, this ticket doesn't just give me a seat, it also gives me the right, no, the duty! to make a complete ass of myself.
Marge: Mph.

Yep. Because going to the football is all about drinking beer.

Deadset, people who spend more time in beer lines than in their seat should be removed.

It is not but I enjoy 2 beers whilst watching the U20's...for the record I never get beers during first grade. What I don't get is why I should be penalised when I can control the alcohol I put in my body! I won't go to grounds where there is mid strength rubbish. At least the SFS members is full strength!
