Dave Smith must have put a gun to Eels managament heads in round 1 when there was 17-18k there against the Warriors and they end up announcing 13k
At the end of the day 90% of the time its the Brisbane crowds giving the NRL a somewhat respectable look when it comes to crowd figures.
Try reading my post more slowly, it might then become easier to comprehend. I even stated that was the case but overall, these things balance themselves out (number of people within the catchment that do not support the club and number of people outside the catchment that do). A very large percentage of RL fans in Brisbane would support the Donkeys while a small percentage of RL fans in Sydney would support any given Sydney based club. I'm not sure why you would expect any club in Sydney which have an average of 5.3 million (Sydney + Illawarra) / 9 clubs worth of people to draw from would outdraw 2.2 million /1 club. Sure, some people in Brisbane don't follow the Donkeys but there are also Melbourne, Canberra, NZ, GC, NQ and Brisbane fans in Sydney.

As you would expect from a large 1 team town that doesn't have the same competition for crowds as somewhere like Melbourne. Given all the facts though, it's not as impressive as it appears to the casual onlooker.
Heroes
You do realise that every Brisbane rugby league fan over the age of about 30 had supported a Sydney club before the Broncos came into equation - and a large amount have stayed with the older club.
I do not wish to get into the debate going on but this point is not true.
In the mid eighties the loyalty of most Brisbane RL fans lied with their BRL club, not a Sydney club. A large amount would not even have been interested in a Sydney club, let alone support them.
To suggest at the inclusion of the Broncos they dropped their BRL loyalties for a Sydney club is quite ridiculous.

or Easts?
Heaps of people paid alot of attention to the Windfield cup during the 80s - and developed a support for a team. When the Broncos came in they still had loyalties to their BRL side, but i know a shiteload who for example support Souths but attend Easts games weekly.
Take note of the blokes aged 45-60 next time your at Suncorp. Guarantee youll see alot in opposition colours.
EDIT: Im not saying they "dropped" their loyalties to a Sydney club, but so many already had an interest in a Sydney club to begin with. Look at the Broncos first home attendance - if every BRL fan rocked up it would have been 40k not 17k.

Kinda like the population of Brisbane is only 1 millionNot what you said.
"Every Brisbane Rugby League fan had supported a Sydney club".
Plainly a false assertion to back up your other arguments.
A huge amount, possibly even a majority had no loyalties to any Sydney club.
You're regional if going from the CBD you cannot get to where you are without passing through farmland or bush. Penrith is Sydney ffs.
