Now, here's a question: if the Storm/Warriors fixture starts to gain momentum in the years to come, would you move it to Etihad Stadium which seats 55k or so?

F*ck no. Why bother having a stadium with 28K capacity if the few games we get which can pack it out go elsewhere.

Stupid question?

Etihad gets pretty full - 56k for origin last year, Victory get large crowds there, Wallabies Lions is sold out.

MCG today 93,793.... Liverpool v Victory is sold out.. And they dont care because one game into the fifth round and they have had 6 crowds over 72,000 (4 over 80,000). Massive crowds are very regular.

Im in no way a fan of AFL, but as a fan of sport in general I am respectful yet jealous of their massive crowds.

They do, I'm not questioning that at all, I'm talking about Metricon, Skoda, Blacktown, Manuka. Public funded stadiums, not MCG, Eithiad etc. AAMI has surely been much more beneficial for Melbourne and a number of clubs and codes than these four put together.

Absolutely. But lets hope in some way the Commonwealth Games save the failure of Metricon.

AAMI- 25,480.. Looks bigger!

Highest crowd for a regular season match at AAMI Park, eclipsing the 24,801 vs Dragons in 2011. Also, equals the highest crowd for a Melbourne Storm home match during the regular season in the club's history (equalling the 25,480 vs Warriors at Etihad in 2010).

So, two ground records for regular season matches set today. The other being 40,792 at Allianz today

Honestly mate no one with a brain takes them seriously, but look at the shit Roy Hardley dribbles and the scary thing is quite a few people take what he says as gospel. I'm just sick of so called RL journo's continually putting our game down.

Well.

948,884 fans through the turnstiles this season after 50 games. That's 18,978 per game.

Same point last year only 881,409, which came to 17,628 per game.

Admittedly ANZAC Day was Round 8 last year but even so, this season is a LONG way ahead very early on.

I predict right now that crowds will take a hit around that 6-7 week Origin period and many on this forum will yet again be calling for stand-alone Origin weekends.

It's the price to be paid for being freed from News' shackles.

In the next few years the NRL will hopefully use some of the broadcast money to establish a substantial media/propaganda unit just like the VFL's and bypass mainstream media to get the message across.

You know they are a tabloid.
You know that they only talk shit to sell newspapers.
You know they make shit up (ie. "a club source revealed to the Telegraph etc...)
You know they get a lot of their info off websites like this.
You know they are the scum of the earth.

Why play into their hands?
Ignore the cretins.

Thats what I don't understand is why have SOO not once but twice in Sydney midweek when book games have a big chance not selling out alone side the it also having on Sydney NRL teams before and after the 2 games (alongside tired and injured players):?.
BTW 2 great crowds today so maybe things are changing for the better when it comes to the big games.

If you have a look at 2GB's age demographics in the Sydney radio ratings surveys, the bracket that has the most number of listeners is.....surprise surprise...65 and over (which really represents most ppl who listen to AM radio compared to the younger ppl who listen more to FM radio). In fact, 2GB have a relatively large percentage in the 50-64 and 65 and over demographics combined, hence why they've been winning the ratings in Sydney for the past decade. Alan Jones and Ray Hadley clearly pander to the retirees who comprise the majority of radio listeners on AM radio - those who grew up listening to radio during the time where it was the dominant medium before tv became commonplace in Australia.

It's no surprise why Hadleys CCT show (not the RL call but the pre-game stuff, especially on Saturdays which runs from 12-5pm) rated very well since he crossed over to 2GB: because his CCT pre-game "lets talk about anything but RL" audience is MOSTLY the same audience that listens to his weekday morning show that he has hosted since he joined 2GB in 2002

Next week will obviously be down but there are a few potential big crowds in there. Friday night there is the broncos and the dogs/tigers which hopefully can bring in 60K or so (optimistic i know). Roosters/panthers should also get 20K+ on a sunday afternoon, in the form they're in you would expect a good crowd (would love to see it surprise us like the souths/storm crowd).

The knights will probably also get a decent crowd on a Sunday arvo. Will be an interesting week for sure as the rest i've got no idea on.
