It seems the NRL & Origin has created a prisoner's dilemma around this period for the administration and fans.
There are three options to take during the Origin period
A: (No club games during Origin)
B: (Origin/Club games at the same time)
C: (Club games remain intact, Scrap Origin).
Option A occured in 01 only for fans to complain about the lack of club footy and from a administration perspective the fear of the 'free kick' to the other codes would be foolish to give away.
Option B is the balance option it which fans get club footy albeit lower standard which in turn effects ratings and attendance while Origin remains.
Option C will never happen as Origin is the jewel crown of the NRL and would harm the NRL's TV revenue, ratings, etc. However, club games will remain full strength throughout the entire NRL season hypothetically thus attendances and ratings won't be duly effected.
The administration chose Option B at the moment since A/C is too risky and B is the safe option. While from a fan perspective A/C would cause complaints and dissatisfaction if implemented. B would be the best option for both at the moment.
Why would you move it to a weekend? it works great where it is!
But the club game doesn't. This discussion is obviously about how you can get SOO to work without completely f**king over like 6 weeks of the NRL.

Who lost games they would of won with Origin players this week?

Cowboys against Raiders. Also, is Eels/Panthers going to sell out in Penrith surely considering it's 3rd vs 4th in West Sydney heartland. Penrith crowds have been disappointing for all there success this year.
What has that got to do with my post in any way? We're talking about how it effects the game financially.
Why change it is my point. We had games that kept sponsors and broadcasters happy and didn't really change the result.
Pretty much down to just a few seats here and there at Suncorp for tomorrow night.
They have either; shifted a deck load, or just printed and gave out whole sections.
Can only get 6 seats in category two and they are moving fast. Then just restricted view and singles.
2001 or 2002
The fact the game is 24 hours away and you can buy 6 tickets in a section, speaks volumes however.
No doubt, tomorrow some clever poster on LU is going to say "See its all OK, the game has near sold out, why was everyone complaining"
Which is completely missing the point, that the real issues is lack of sales meaning tickets were heavily discounted and virtually given away, thus pissing off people who purchased tickets initially.
Yeah there will be a few. I would say the pax is over 51,000 now. Corporate packages are sold out too. They have also resold the tickets left behind by stadium members whom have elected not to go.
However, the QRL has absolutely destroyed themselves from a PR perspective.
The only way they can fix it is bringing back the 6 category map from 2012.
Much better when they sell out on the day, hey. No stupid marketing campaigns.
Because it causes crowds and viewership in the NRL to drop. I'm not saying we HAVE to change but that's why it's being discussed. If it were possible to keep SOO as possible and reduce its impact on the club game why wouldn't you do it?
