I know to all of us in NSW that post here that's probably a big thing but that doesn't really mean anything. In the end price will dictate whether people will go to this game or not and the price is set very high at the moment. The fact that last night's game sold out was very lucky and they still had to discount tickets/give them away for it to hit 52,000.

People here seem like they're going to be dumbfounded if game 2 doesn't sell out which might very well be the case with 30,000 seats left to sell.

Yeah some people claim NSW is the heart and soul of rugby league when they can't even sell out Origin. If rugby league's heart and soul was in NSW it would be empty and void just like the empty seats down there. QLD is the true heartland of rugby league.

Since the opening of ANZ Stadium (Sydney), New South Wales has NEVER drawn less than Queensland for any Origin match. The lowest would've been around 60k I imagine.

The last three have topped 80k.

But we don't care about Origin and we're not the heart and soul, eh?

Rubbish....
Lets be VERY hyperthetical,
If the game of Rugby League was in a catastrophic position and be forced to downsize.
In otherwords,to ensure the long term survival of the game, either Sydney or Brisbane would need to be cut from the game or national competition. There is no other option.
Which city would be cut to ensure the heart of the game survives?

The answer is obvious.
Rugby League without Sydney will be the end of the Australian Rugby League.

Yes, because a three game annual contest is indicative of that.

Please disregard the 30 week domestic competition where NSW draws millions more in through the gate...

NSW teams are responsible for majority of the embarrassing sub 10k crowds that plagued the competition and give it a bad look. Getting sub 10k crowds between two NSW teams is just terrible for self-proclaimed 'heartland'.

Manly for all there success can't even average 16k, at best 15k throughout the past seven years. The crowds Manly are getting for all there success is pretty low for such a successful team what's the excuses t-ba.

ANZ Stadium,Sydney -Average SoO Attendance - 74,156
Lang Park,Brisbane -Average SoO Attendance - 38,665

Dumb statistic.

This lang park figure means nothing as it was reconfigured in 2003. Since then the smallest crowd was last year 51,690 (only time under 52,000) and the largest 52,498, twice. The Capacity is 52,500 now.

And the old Lang Park was always full too.

We aren't used to seeing vacant seats up here.

More games would be my suggestion. Lots more choice. Yet with 3 times as many games as QLD NSW draws around 75% per match of the average of the much more scarce QLD matches.

How is it that a club like the Broncos, in a catchment 4 times larger than any NSW side has, can't pack out Suncorp consistently? What the f**k is happening at Townsville and the Gold Coast? 6-7 years ago the per-match disparity would have been more like 60%. Why is the gap being closed but the relative amount of matches per state still relatively the same?

I've got none. We're not a big, well supported club. I'd go as far as saying we are an historical anachronism from the era of Suburban football. Ten years ago I was convinced we'd be playing out of Kawana Waters by now. We're a club from a small catchment who just happens to highly successful. And we're in the black with our financials improving year on year . I wouldn't trade our situation for a club like Souths in a heartbeat.

What would you prefer? premierships and a stable, plodding future or 50,000 through the gates every week and nothing to show for it?

As a disclaimer, I think Heartland discussion is a bit geniused. But bullshit comments like the ones made before just rustle my jimmies.

I just picked up two tickets to Origin 2 and the Pax # = 65527

I bought mine at 8:30am this morning and got 60945. So a lot of tickets have moved today and I'm sure we will see similar take up closer to the date.I think it will be a sell out.

13500 is a bit low for the first game of the year at Mt Smart, I'd say more like 18000
