Great atmosphere at the dogs souths game. As neutral I thought the dogs fans dominated souths. Half the time the pa chant would come on and be drowned out by the drums and doggies chants. Great effort.

That's a ridiculous comparison. The origin period almost always sinks crowds.

No more ridiculous then the comparisons being made over the last few weeks with other numbers despite the fact Easter was much later this year.

No more ridiculous then comparing this year with last despite this being the wettest autumn in 60 years and rain being historically the key reason for low crowds at any venue.

No more ridiculous in comparing round 1 this year with round 1 last year when they were different games at different venues

In fact I would say given the vagrancies of the season it is the only legitimate way of making a comparison this early in the year and while one would consider the issue of Origin we must consider all the other factors as well

The atmosphere down the Southern End of ANZ was insane; particularly in the last 20 mins. When Hodko nailed the field goal it just erupted. Love being a part of those sorts of games, but not sure my heart can handle too many more 1 point wins!! Dogs easily outnumbered Souths I thought; probably close to 2-1. Souths had the sides but behind both ends of the ground and the upper levels were 90% dogs fans. Will be interesting to see how parra/tigers go on Monday - hopefully we can get around the same sort of crowd.

yeah what? Campbelltown obstensibly have a team to support, the Manly link to the Central Coast is a tenous one. As I said in the game thread, I think 10k is a decent crowd for two teams from out of town.

My post was in response to the other part of the post I quoted. The bit about comparing this much of 2014 with all of 2013. You don't go anywhere near a fair comparison until you include the origin period.

Great atmosphere @ ANZ in the 2nd Half! Please South Sydney stop the PA Souths chant... Almost as bad as the "Parra" cha cha cha PA chants... Makes u guys look pathetic! Felt like more bulldog fans today, the sides on the lower bowl had lots of spare seats, where were all the South members? Hopefully the Dogs n Eels keep winning... Round 14 (if it's Not effected by Origin) has 50K+ potential.

I'll get accused of being a broken record but Souths' got dominated in the stands today. Too many empty spots in their member bays on either side of the field. Dogs areas behind goals and upstairs were chocker-block, loud and great to see. What's it gonna take for Bunnies members to show up en masse?

THAT SAID - 43k is a great crowd and credit to both sets of fans for making it a great occasion.

Gosford
I then trekked up the M1 and found myself at the Manly game... behind the goals was great and most of the eastern stand was ok, but the non-TV side (the part you don't see) was pitiful.

Ultimately if Manly are going to pit themselves against Newcastle at Gosford on the same night they're not making a very good decision. They'd have been better off making it the Raiders game next Sunday and give the CC public a real chance to come out and support the team. The other game next Sunday is Tigers v Titans at Leichhardt from memory, which wouldn't provide any meaningful competition for attendance like today's Knights/Broncos game would have. Also, the Cowboys aren't going to bring away support in any great numbers, lets be real. Dogs v Cowboys last year drew around 11.5k from memory.

I think at this point, if Broncs/Souffs at Lang Park for the ANZAC Day round is anything but a complete sellout, it's a poor result. Broncos coming off a great win and Souffs copping a field goal defeat.

I'm not too worried about last nights crowd in gosford. Was pretty much only manly fans and at a neutral venue v a very low drawing side for sydney teams. People on the coast are as partisan in there support of their team as any so neutral attendance is always low so I don't think the Newcastle game was much of an iulssue for competition.

If we get those crowds for the round then crowds are up 4% on last years average for the season. Will we see articles in the tele all week how despite the wettest start to Autumn in 50 years NRL crowds are 4% up on 2013 average crowds and what a fantastic job the NRL are doing ??

good post.

according to rothfield crowds are down 20% since gallop left.

I can't see why not after next weekend R8 that we are not on pace with last years totals.

Two good crowds yesterday and some games still to be played that promise good crowds will boost the figures for this round.

As for R8, the games on ANZAC day should draw big crowds.

We will have a much better indication about crowds after next weekend

Sharks should get a boost from gallens return but not sure what to expect for both today's game. Maybe 15k for both is a good aim

Setting yourself up for a fail there buddy.

General admission bays remove any chance of a crowd over 48k. Maroon GA has had a handful of people in it all season.

Shaping as 40-42k. I think with great promotion and a good rock up it could be 45-46k.

It'd beyond me why Brisbane can't sellout marquee games. Realy they do underacheive in terms of crowds.
