NSW fans must be loosing their shit. Finally a depleted QLD team, home solid.

Mate I don't know, I tipped QLD to win comfaratably but after game 1 they looked really rattled. I know losing Cronk was huge and you don't want to see that even as a Blues fan but even when Cronk was there QLD just didn't look like the QLD of old.

Slater has clearly lost a step and doesn't have that acceleration and speed that he used to. Hodges and Tate are dinosaurs that have also lost a few steps. Inglis is about the only one who can fire if he gets the space. Halves are (or should i say were) good. Forwards are nothing spectacular and bench is above average too. Cameron Smith is still a very solid player but has also lost a step.

There was a time when QLD used to spread that ball out wide and you knew NSW were in trouble. This time around I dont know they just don't look as potent when that ball goes out wide as they have in recent years and the age factor with Slater, Hodges, Tate, Thurston and Smith was really starting to show in the last game.

I'm not so sure that even if the injured QLD players were all healthy that they're that much better then NSW anymore.

Down to single seat only for reserved seating for Panthers v Dragons. Given the junior passes are still excepted aren't at the Parra game level of sales yet. Though if the weather holds off could be another sellout

Yeah about right maybe 2-3k of Bulldogs/Parra fans 20k would be the crowd you would think

The amount of big games around the time of origin is interesting

On one hand, seems counter productive given that say tonights crowd would likely be bigger should all the origin players be there, ditto sundays crowd.

On the other hand, maybe they've decided this is the best way to minimise the damage in this period?

Seems that way. Although we are sacrificing the potential of a much larger crowd, I guess they're willing to see if this route maintains interest in the NRL competition throughout the Origin period. Could be worth a shot

Or use that money to better fund our reserve grade competition creating better quality of depth and increasing the player pool.

I'd love to see an Australia-wide tier 2 competition. Something with a salary cap of around $1-2mill, [would have to have a TV deal of some kind]. NRL clubs could 'loan' their players to these clubs (as the reserve grade component).
16 teams, gives the expansion hopefuls a chance to get their respective houses in order, and have some sort of fanbase should they ever be included in the main competition.

Then have some kind of pre-season knockout competition that concludes through the Origin rounds or some such (ie, similar to FA cup in England) - played across these competitions, but also involving clubs from other levels of Aus league.

I tried to get it with signing up for the all games live on phone through the nrl app run by telestra, but didn't work.
