In a rugby union stronghold where there are just 4 rugby league clubs that's a great crowd. Powerful rugby unions make it difficult for rugby league, then there is peer group pressure which when applied makes things difficult for the casual fan. If you live in Sydney and haven't experienced this type of thing then you have no idea of what goes on in a place like Dunedin.

There's less than 150,000 people in Dunedin for f**ks sake get some perspective about it.

I think it's only 120k and 20k of that are students.

Still, the population of Whangarei is just over 52k and they pulled 17k last week, so it could be better.

Will be worth it if they come back for a WC game and based on the quality of that game they should bring a lot of friends with them.

Whangarei is a couple of hours away from Auckland let's not forget, which in turn would make it 3.5 hours from Hamilton. Whangarei had the advantage of not only being from a stronger area in Rugby League terms but is a lot closer to a lot more people than the Union stronghold of Otago.

Interesting figures for the Highlanders in a union stronghold, especially when the city is full of students at that time of year and tonight's game many students would've been in the middle of exam time or have left for the summer break.

16k is alright, a little on the disappointing side. should aim for 18-20k although im guessing being a student town with people on holiday/exams didnt help.

Opportunity lost.

Opportunity lost to please a few guys on an internet forum.

Opportunity taken to push back the rugby league world boundaries a little further and start creating a league culture in soon to be World Cup venues.

Yeah good point.

I'd like to see the Warriors take a few more games around the country as well.

How on this earth has it taken 100+ years for Australia to play at the gong? Are they first international Australian side to play their is my next question
