Surely any new Q'land team has to play out of Suncorp or what's the point? Why not just call them Sth Brisbane or Nth Brisbane or even SQ but still playing out of Suncorp. No way the Q'land Govt is going to build another $200mill RL stadium and it's ridiculous Suncorp sits empty every other week. Calling them Ipswich or any other suburb/ town is just going to limit the fanbase. Make it more generic and cast the net wider.

I don't always agree with Perth Red but his comments are spot-on here. Suncorp Stadium is under-utilised and needs to be used as a home ground for a 2nd Brisbane team (at least for half their games anyway).

As for what to call the 2nd team - does 'South Queensland Crushers' ring a bell anyone? The beauty of callin the team 'South Queensland' is that they can take selected 'on-the-road' home games to Ipswich, Toowoomba, Sunshine Coast, Logan or even to Skilled Park on the Gold coast and the team name would still fit.

How does ANZ make any money when they are paying teams to play there and only that many turn up?

Sponsorship. Companies pay good money to have advertising boards around the stadium but will only committ if there are televised games there. So the stadium pays incentives for clubs to play at the stadium.

Then theres other revenue like food/drinks, corporate boxes etc.

Given it was two Sydney teams that is like 7,000 Sth's fans and 2,000 Penrith fans that could be ar5ed to get off their sofas to support their club. Seriously can anyone even come close to justifying why supposed premier level teams can only get that many people to watch them?

2 Sydney teams both with one of the larger fanbases in the area can only muster up 9k to a stadium that has its own train station.

Newcastle kicks its arse against Canberra.

Do Sydney people even give a damn about RL?

Historically that's all a Souths/Panthers game gets. The last 6 games have drawn crowds of 9308, 6774, 11108, 9126, 5053 and 9017. Apparently Souths fans couldn't care less about a game against the Panthers.

Now those numbers are really sad.
2 Sydney teams should be drawing close to double the above crowd attendances.

Didn't that crowd at Wollongong look great. The field looked like a work of art, the sun was shining. As gus would say "gotta love your sunday afternoon footy".

Games like Souths v Panthers are the reason that the rest of the country laughs at rugby league. Pick up your act. You're an Embarrassment.

Which is all well and good BUT Tv pays big $'s to be able to show games live and on an evening. You can't have your cake and eat it! I agree that Sydney needs less night games as the fans clearly can't be ar5ed to support their team on a night, but TV has its scheduling. With two more teams and WA time difference it will be improved but he who pays the piper calls the tune and all that!
