Crowd Watch Thread 2009

The Storm and Raiders can be forgiven for those numbers because they are expansion areas. The Eels can't, they are in western Sydney. Sharks? Well they need to do something.

That's gotta be one of the most dumbest quotes I have ever heard. So what if they are "expansion teams"? Canberra has been in the comp since 1982 and Melbourne since 1998. They have an NRL licence just like everyone else.

Melbourne and Canberra are one team towns so if anything their crowds should be MUCH bigger. Melbourne has a good excuse because their home ground is a sh!th*le but I expect their crowds to improve in a big way next year at the new stadium. Canberra has no excuse.

Parramatta's crowds reflect the way their team was playing the past year and a half. And it's not so much that they were losing but HOW the team was losing - with players showing no effort, passion and playing like a bunch of zombies thanks to Michael Hagan.

Parra's crowds reached a low ebb. Now that Daniel Anderson is putting his stamp on the team with some good form recently Parra's crowds will only get better. Parra fans can still follow a team that tries it's heart out and loses (and even better when they start winning) but their listless efforts are the cuse of the crowds drop.

Trust me champ these figures will change dramatically.:)

I agree that Melbourne's crowds will increase dramatically - but that's becasue their current stadium is a sh!thole and are getting a new stadium. It's very little to do with being an "expansion" team.

And what's Canberra's excuse? Been in the comp for 28 years, a great stadium, played in 5 grand finals and won 3 of them... yet their sh!t crowds are OK becasue they are an "expansion" team? Yet people want to bag Parra's crowds this year becasue they are not an "expansion team", even though in the recent past they have had some of the best crowds in the comp? Please!

This seems to me there is a new, trendy and convenient "expansion team" excuse for Sydney-haters to fall back on whenever out-of town teams get crap crowds. A sh!t crowd is a sh!t crowd no matter if it's an "expansion team" or not. All 16 clubs have the same NRL licence.

I'll be making the trek down myself... apart from the cold I can't wait. Canberra is a great stadium, pity it's rarely full for NRL games.

If Souths can't get at least 15k to their game tonight in perfect conditions they are kidding themselves. I don't give a sh*t about them playing an interstate team, they are playing a top-four side. Surely there's 15k Souths out there wanting to see their rejuventated team run around against quality opposition.
