For what it's worth, the CC v Newcastle "local derby" at Bluetongue tonight only got 9,500. That fixture used to draw about 16-17k.

To add insult to injury, I've just updated RLP and noticed that the Friday night aggregrate in the English Super League (two games) has trumped the NRL's:

NRL: 18199 + 11977 = 30176
ESL: 16931 + 13452 = 30453

Needless to say the NRL will maintain a 5 figure average through the weekend while the ESL will take a big drop as the Friday games were at Wigan and Leeds. But, it's not often you see the NRL get beaten on the same night by the ESL in that fashion.

The Queensland derby tonight in the A League could only draw 7k.

Not great for Gold Coast FC's first home game.

Geez where did the Canberra fans come from and where have they been all year?

Travelling fans make a huge difference to crowd nos.
Fortunately for Canberra, the Dragons are sitting on top of the table and they turned up for the game.

Dragons away game crowds are always boosted by our fans, they are massive travellers to go watch their team anywhere. i also think Dragons fans tend to live in different cities so that helps.

To come - Sharks/Tigers @ Toyota & Broncos/Pemriff @ Suncorp on Sunday, Knights v Storm @ EAS Monday night.

Average will spike to about 16k with the Broncos game, which should hopefully crack 30k.

The dogs and dragons have really been boosting some away crowds this year. It's nice to see well supported teams at the top of the table.
