Crowd Watch Thread 2009

Dragons v Titans - I don't know where another 5k could fit. The hill was FULL.

It wasn't that full. People were seated for the most part and the back of the hill was quite sparse.

very average crowd, it seems the wollongong locals just dont support the side. Lets see the crowd at kogarah next week, should be a sellout. If the gong locals dont support the side, take games away from them.

Not at all a fair comparison. Game against a new team with virtually no Wollongong/Sydney-based support on what is typically one of the least attractive timeslots vs Sunday afternoon local derby.

Dreadful crowd at Cronulla. Not good enough. I wont cop the Monday night excuse. Perhaps the Sharks should take half their games to Adelaide. Having less games in the Shire might boost the attendaces there for the 6 Sharks home games they do get.

Perhaps another suggestion is what someone else has suggested on another post and play half their games at SFS.

Agreed, Cromulla should seriously start linking up with Adelaide. and/or the SFS.

Rabbitohs v Eels - disappointing on the grounds of the fact Rabbits had scored 52 points the week before. And Parra's first home game. Having said that, 20k is still a good crowd by any standards.
.

It was a Souths home game. But you're right, 20k is a good crowd.

Hey Timmah,

Just wondering, and not sure if this is feasable or if you have the resources to do this, but would it be an idea to colour code the weekly matches to indicate if the the crowd for a particlular match is up or down on the figure for the corresponding game the previous year?

Maybe green = crowd is up on same game last year and red = crowd is down on same game last year?

Also because not everyone plays the other twice, some games played this year were not played last year... so maybe we could go on the the 2007 figure when the last time the corresponding match at a certain team's home ground was played?

An example of round 1 is:

Round 1
Storm v Dragons @ Olympic 14,870
Broncos v Cowboys @ Suncorp 45,022
Warriors v Eels @ Mt Smart 20,102
Bulldogs v Sea Eagles @ ANZ 19,791
Sharks v Panthers @ Toyota 10,617
Titans v Knights @ Skilled 16,203
Roosters v Rabbitohs @ SFS 24,486
Tigers v Raiders @ Camp'town 17,392

With teams with multiple home grounds, the corresponding home game of that team will be the crowd figure the fixture is compared to for e.g. Wests Tigers at Campbelltown or Leichhardt.

Might have a look at it tonight. In cases where the game wasn't played at that venue in 2008, I might leave it black.

I don't get the point of that. So many factors are crucial to crowd figures as opposed to just who's playing who and where. It depends on the form of the clubs, the day and time the game is being played, whether it's at the start or end of the season etc. A crowd comparison simply between the two sides at the ground from a season or two ago achieves nothing.

You don't have to look into it to much. It's just a quick way to see how a crowd between 2 teams compared to previous years. I like it, if you see plenty of green you can take that as crowds generally being good.

I don't think it achieves anything it's just interesting and it looks better anyway ;-)
