 Rubbish. More Brisbane teams would mean lower crowds, just like has happened in Sydney.

No it wouldn't. Even if there were 8 teams in Brisbane they would all get 40k crowds every weekend. OINK!

This is true, but two Brisbane teams pulling smaller crowds than the Broncos currently enjoy could still result in higher overall average crowds.

Note that these are rounded numbers, not based on anything other than their ability to demonstrate a point.

Scenario 1:
15 non-Brisbane teams averaging 17,000 plus Brisbane Broncos averaging 34,000 equals NRL average crowd 18,000.

Scenario 2:
15 non-Brisbane teams averaging 17,000 plus two Brisbane teams averaging 27,000 equals NRL average crowd of 18,000 (plus an additional 215,000 attendances at NRL games).

Another Brisbane side could average at least 20k and not substantially dent the Broncos crowds. There's enough people who hate them that if a team was marketed correctly (Say, with strong links to the QRL), you'd have a sustainable supporter base.

Those are basically my scenario figures.

Brisbane Broncos average crowd: 34,000
New Brisbane team average crowd: 20,000
Two Brisbane teams average crowd: (34,000 + 20,000) / 2 = 27,000

Another Brisbane team would be a great idea, but then David Gallop isn't exactly known for his great ideas.

If a 2nd Brisbane team came in, I don't think it will be detrimental to the Broncos crowds too much. Maybe a 3-4,000 less on average. But if we have a 2nd team drawing good crowds as well then it will bring more people to through the gate on aggregate and have a game in Brisbane every week. And attendances will be boosted by more sold out or near-sold out local derbys between Broncos, Titans, 2nd Brisbane, Cowboys.

Call me an eternal optimist but I just looked at the 'Dogs v Parra crowd from last year.

The game was played on Saturday night at ANZ and a mammoth 27,000 turned up - both teams in ordinary form at the tail end of the year.

The 'Dogs are in great form now, it's Sunday arvo, it's not live on TV and the Easter Show is next door to boost the crowd.

I'm predicting 32,000 now, and will be disappointed with anything less than the 27,000 they got in R24 last year.

That game last year was a double header with the Tigers/Eagles so the dogs/eels didnt pull in 27k. This game will not get 30k and i predict about 20-22k.

18,510 @ Skilled
14,322 @ CUA

The figure without context at Penrith isn't great but when you compare their first few crowds last year with their first few this year, they're going great guns.

Penrith's first three @ CUA in 2008:
7,503
10,839
16,924
Average 11,755

Penrith's first three @ CUA in 2009:
16,846
15,813
14,322
Average 15,660

I have been attending games at Penrith for about 15 years, and there is no way the attendance was only 14,322. I have been to all 3 games this year, and last night had by far MORE people there than the other two. All you have to do is look how many people were in the eastern terrace!! There was easy 17,000 - 18,000 people there

Look at the top of the eastern stand - the one visible on TV. The ends bays on the left and right were empty.

Yep, agreed. it was the last 2 games as well. As I said, the eastern terrace was packed. the middle 3 bays were as good as sold out, I have never seen it that packed without a sellout! Were you at the game..?
