Awesome sell-out crowd, awesome atmosphere.

Both sets of fans ought to be congratulated. A great day/night for rugby league and I'm no fan of either team.

I loved the Roosters fans, throwing around their streamers and the amount of flags they had. Looked really good on the Telly.

At CC - would the division have been 60/40 in your favour?

Cracking crowd. We were closer to the southern end so near the manly fans. The "maaaanly" chant was huge at stages, as was the "easts" chant from the other end.

Great crowd, and best of all not a dickhead amongst em afterward. Didn't see any roosters gloating not did I see any manly fans having a sook.

Great respect between the fans

Yes I noticed there was a certain respect as well. Certainly the best behaved crowd I have been in of that size for some time

Maybe 55/45. Manly fans were all class after the game. Hats off. Atmosphere was awesome. Both ends looked fantastic and cam across great on tv too.

didn't understand the hysterics leading up to the game from some. Great crowd and great atmosphere

The event has improved 100% since i last attended in 2010.

Winning this time would have helped - :p - and the fact that it was not pouring with rain for the whole game.

Well done Manly and Rooster fans for proving the doubters wrong. It seemed to have a great atmosphere on TV so it would have been even more fantastic to actually have been there.

What a bizarre year.
H&A crowds down 3% and the lowest in 5 years, finals even worse BUT 2 of the largest crowds of all time and several rounds near the record. It looked like it would be a massive year until SOO. I suspect it fell away due to the poor form of SGI, Broncos and Dogs.

Agree.
Ticket prices obviously no deterrent, so don't expect any wind back next year.

Quite simply a great Grand Final and a great crowd - more than 2008 and 2006 if I recall correctly. 81,491 isn't a bad figure.

The only thing I'll say is those last 2-3k of seats would likely have been occupied if neutrals weren't discouraged from attending by the prices.

Pleasantly surprised by the crowd.

On the negative side get used to these prices. In fact don't be surprised if they go up by another 5-10%. Good business practice suggests the absolute maximum price possible while still selling out.

Grand final will become like the Super Bowl and price the average fan out I just hope it's like the champions league where they ripped off fans big time then changed it back due to negativity

I am certainly no fan of either team (choosing between Manly and the Roosters is like choosing between a stubbed toe and a splinter in your finger). However, the crowd last night was awesome, and the game was easily one of the most entertaining that I have seen this year.

A great final.

The lesson a few could learn perhaps is to not count your chickens (or crowds) prematurely. What exactly did that week of handwringing achieve?

All said, the crowds dropped off, and I think most of the reasons suggested here were on the money. Poor scheduling (thanks Nine), poor form from high drawing teams (thanks Broncs) and Origin.

The first two are fixable, but I don't think we can kill the Golden Goose of Origin. We either need to suck it up and accept that there will be lower crowds for that part of the season (and really, other than for dick measuring competitions, does it really matter?) or fill that time with some "novelty scheduling" (and I'm thinking games in Suva, Nadi, Moresby, hell even London or Carcassone) that could aid development and publicise the game in different ways during Origin "fever".

Anyway. Another club season over. And not a bad one at that. The world isn't falling in.

Enjoy the World Cup and enjoy the cricket. 2014 will be here before you know it.

Edit: Oh, and to all of the southerners who didn't like being ribbed about Sydney crowds... get f**ked! :)

That's because souths were kicked out. Allow the disappointment to subside.

I can only comment on what I experienced yesterday and it was first class. Both sets of fans brought their A game and the players responded. I hate Manly and I hate Easts, but I absolutely love quality rugby league.

I think the 22k at Randwick on Saturday was a better atmosphere bro:crazy:

I think the problem is we spend our entire advertising budget on SOO. Even before the season starts you're already seeing ads for it. Basically it's built up as the be all, end all of league and you don't even hear about club games. Then after all the hype builds up to that series it finishes and the advertising dries up. I don't think we need to kill off SOO but it would be nice if instead of spending all our advertising for a series everyone will watch anyway we spared a bit for the club game.

It's slowly becoming more of an issue and we saw that this year. Nothing to panic about of course but it the ARLC want to grow crowds it's probably something to look at.

Well the NRL has set a target of a 20k avg per game within 5 years. Year one has gone and crowds are lowest since 2008. Doesn't look like the NRL is having any influence on cost of memberships for 2014 so going to be interested to see how they intend to achieve that 4000 people per game growth, beyond hoping the popular teams are successful.

At the ground. Massive improvement on the last gf I attended in 2010. Feels like a bigger event

Agree, 2013 was more of a carnival outside the ground. There were international foods available, dodgem cars, rides, etc. Obviously the weather was better than 2010... Most blokes had shorts on yesterday....seemed like a summers night at the cricket. And yes I heard on the radio that is what the NRL is attempting to do...make it a great day to attend an event, not just a game of footy. Let's hope it builds bigger and bigger. A great day for all, including the neutrals.

Yeh I'd agree. Both teams chants were big at times.

Agree, the prices put the brakes on, especially for fans of teams that have enjoyed recent success.
You can't double your price overnight on any item and not expect to take a hit.
