It's actually not a set number of points. It's that they cant get any points from games they have been over the cap this year, ie every game they have played. So they won 6 games, so it's 12 points gone

Shouldn't they be on -4 though from the original penalty?

This may seem like small fry compared to their other penalties but, what of the prize money from the Auckland Nines?

Which begs the question

How did he get regestered by the NRL if they were over the cap ?

cos the nrl was told one thing by the eels, whilst they were doing something else. they've been caught out after doing all their dodgy shit and finally getting caught.

what i find interesting in all this is the nrl says they're going to start looking at players and managers to see what their role is

It's going to be hard. Even if it takes them a month to sort out their cap and get under, that means that will be 3 maybe 4 games they can't earn points in. That leaves them with 11 or 12 games (plus 2 byes) to get to 28 points which may be the cut off.

They will be under the cap by their next game, particularly if they offer up a couple of big names.

They will need to anyway, as an average player won't attract any interest.

When a player leaves a club mid-contract, the club usually pays some of his contract.

They might have to shed $570k but in reality, it might be closer to a million...the year has 1/3 passed.

Then someone on min wage has to be added to the top 25.

More than half the year gone. Pretty sure they operate on a November to October calendar

Shedding the players to get under the cap is going to be next to impossible , unless they let a big name go (Foran)

So there's a reasonable punishment right there. Either they let go a big name or they don't play for points for the rest of the season.

If they don't lose a big name mid season they're going to lose one for next year. Norman would seem likely as he's off contract.

A little late to the party here, but oh well. I feel the punishment is fairly reasonable, but probably would have liked the 'play for points' aspect to come into play once they are both under the cap this year AND have all the issues with current management resolved (obviously this time takes though).

Also the other sponsors/suppliers companies falsifying invoices etc, they will face some tough questions as well I'm sure. ATO will be looking on with keen interest.

I think the bigger concern is that this kind of behaviour is representative of something much more systematic within these organisations. At the very least I suspect their next audits will be incredibly thorough.

Did you actually read what happened in NQ you dimwit?

The fact the story died in the ass immediately after it's release once it was ascertained the amount the players paid for the land was exactly the markey value for that area. The stupid bitch who 'broke the news' thought them paying $460k for a house and land package was paying well unders and thought something dodge was going on...... Well it would be well unders if it was in Sydney ffs.

Thanks, now how much will you pay for the bridge

We all know players and the real story, of course you can afford your roster. As can the Broncos, Bulldogs, Roosters etc, all above board and not a dodgy zTPA anywhere

All clubs should have an emperor, that's only fair

Rest Foran for the year. Null his contract with Parra. Warriors release Hurrell, TL, Manu Vatavei. Warriors sign Foran.

Do you really think Twatmough won't be announcing his retirement in the next week?

The NRL knew this would happen so have put a Clayton's punishment on the end of the pissy 12 points to make it seem as though is hardline.

It is a completely pointless and futile part of the punishment put there for face saving only.

Channel Nein probably came up with that gem.

Twatmough retires and they are then UNDER the cap...:crazy:

What's the go with the watmough retirement thing? If it's a medical retirement his funds are cap exempt if new injury. Under the cap of old?? Something like that. Surely that would free up at least 500k

Anyone know more about this?

Going to have to prove that it is a new injury and not a pre existing one to get it cap exempt. I don't think the NRL will go easy on them in this aspect just to get them back under the cap because of the can of worms it will open up for other clubs to exploit.

They also need to shed almost $1.2 million worth of talent because the year is half gone so Watmough alone won't get them under. That $1.2 million is best case too as it assumes other clubs will pick up the total wage of the players

Our game is so poorly administered. The salary cap was designed to keep a level playing field and yet it still hasn't. All it's done is brought our game into disrepute with clubs finding ways to rort it with some getting caught.

There has to be a better way.
