OK can someone explain the following 2 things?

Apparently Foran is chasing $140k from Manly for unpaid TPA's, when TPA's are not allowed to be guaranteed by the club. How is this even possible, shouldn't he be chasing the 3rd party?

Secondly how can Watmough's salary be taken out of the cap when his knees have been shot for years and this is an existing injury that Parra would have known about prior to signing him and getting insurance for him?
they are allowed to guarantee them it's just that if they do it's included in the cap

Parramatta Eels' Anthony Watmough to retire for club, but wants board to step down too

Now that he has offered to do his bit, Anthony Watmough is confident Parramatta's defiant board will also step aside for the Eels' sake.

Eels chairman Steve Sharp, chief executive John Boulous, head of football Daniel Anderson, deputy chairman Tom Issa and director Peter Serrao have secured a New South Wales Supreme Court injunction against the NRL's move to deregister them over the salary-cap scandal.

But while the officials will keep their jobs until at least Friday, when the matter returns to the Supreme Court, NRL boss Todd Greenberg has made it clear the Eels will be unable to play for competition points until all aspects of the breach notice are dealt with, including the removal of the so-called "Gang of Five".

Watmough, battling a chronic knee injury, has agreed to formalise his retirement in a move that will free up the bulk of the $570,000 Parramatta are alleged to be over the cap in 2016.

"I went to Parra with (intentions of) always trying do the best by Parra and have Parramatta's best interests at heart - and nothing's changed in my book," the former Test star told the Nine Network.

"If we get in that position where we can help Parra and the club and the boys move forward and start playing for points next week, then that's a no-brainer for me.

"The club is bigger than me."

The veteran back-rower believes Sharp, Boulous, Anderson, Issa and Serrao will also come to the party for the greater good of the Eels.

"No one's bigger than the club and I think they'll do the right thing by the club at the end of the day and do what they have to do," Watmough said.
Watmough's retirement papers are believed to have already arrived at rugby league headquarters.

NRL integrity unit chief Nick Weeks will begin investigations into the circumstances surrounding his injury and whether his salary will be backdated - and then removed - from the cap.

"It's based on the timing of when he became unfit to play permanently," an NRL spokesperson said.

While it has long been assumed Watmough's career was already over, having not played at all this year, the former Manly premiership winner struggled on Thursday with the realisation.

"(Rugby league has) definitely passed the body by," said the 32-year-old, 303-game stalwart.

"We're sewww.leagueunlimited.comess people out there at Parra - the playing group is anyway. I can't speak from outside of that. I've done all I can do. I can't do any more.

"If the ball's in our court to do the right thing by Parra, then there's no questions or hesitation."

That ABC report is already out of date. The smh is reporting that the nrl is trying to drop the threats to the elected board and is also complaining that they haven't had enough time to put a response together .

You couldn't make this shit up.

Parramatta Eels to play for NRL premiership points despite directors' legal battles

In a late change of heart, the NRL has told the Parramatta Eels they will be able to play for premiership points while five directors pursue legal action amid the salary cap scandal.

The Eels are still required to become compliant with the league's salary cap, but Anthony Watmough's proposed retirement on medical grounds could be a solution.

Five club officials are fighting the NRL's bid to deregister them over salary cap breaches at the Supreme Court in Sydney.

Representatives from the NRL contacted Parramatta officials on Thursday night to advise the club could play for points while the court action continues.

The court had made an interim order on Tuesday preventing the NRL from imposing limitations on the five officials' duties.

The Parramatta officials had wanted a hearing held quickly on their threatened deregistration so the team's ability to play for points would not be jeopardised, but the NRL wanted more time.

At a further hearing this morning the NRL's barrister Lachlan Gyles SC advised the NRL would allow the Eels to proceed to play for points notwithstanding the court action.

"While this injunction is on foot, it would not prevent the accrual of points if it [Parramatta Eels] is within the salary cap," Giles told the court.

The Eels' next match is on May 13 against South Sydney.

The Eels still cheated, they've still lost their 12 points, and they still need to get under the cap. And for the mean time, they get to keep their incompetent board members.

I'd say the NRL's changed stance might be due to legal advice they've received.

Yeah 100% agree.

The 5's issues won't be solved in a week unless they fall on their swords.

This is the NRL doing the right thing by the fans by increasing the likelihood they will be playing for points from next week onwards.

The NRL trying to put the heavies on a club that isn't broke and that they don't run. Hope they've been practicing their back peddling.

I had a discussion with a Raiders fan at AAMI in 2012 about the Raiders salary cap. What was their punishment again? I think they just had to repay the value of the breach?

Yeah as has been pointed out we had our cap reduced and lost a ton of players. I actually think this is the fairest result on the eels.

However the precedent has been set. Raiders, titans and knights get to cheating the cap to build an illegal team. Thsre is only a very small punishment involved. Especially if you have a whistleblower blow the whistle at the start of the season and that gives the club time to offload the decent players and keep the studs before the club wins anything of note
