On Friday, the NRL issued the following update in relation to the Parramatta Eels:

The NRL said today it would determine the number of points to be docked from the Parramatta Eels when it hands down its final determination on the matter.

A spokesman said the penalty proposed by the NRL earlier this week – a $1 million fine and the loss of all competition points earned by the Eels in the 2016 Telstra Premiership – was unchanged.

“As we said from the outset, this is a preliminary decision and the club now has an opportunity to respond,” the spokesman said.

“Once the club's response is considered, the NRL will make a final determination on the penalty which may be the same or it may change.

“It is important to note that no final decision has been made.

“The club can accrue points while the breach process is ongoing but the NRL will determine whether those points are retained in its final determination.

“As we have said before, if the club gets under the Salary Cap in the meantime that will be a material consideration.”

The spokesman said the club would be given adequate time to respond to the breach notice and a final determination would then be made.

The NRL will also consider submissions from the club in relation to its salary cap over the next few days.

How about considering an alternate possibility.

Allow Eels to compete without that linked to the Supreme Court action. Accumulate points. All very nice.

NRL get ruling that they have right to deregister if the choose to do so.

Deduct the existing 12 on the table and for good measure any accumulated until the court case is finished.

It's not linked to the five now, so tough shit fighting it. No appeal available either as NRL have not breached the order.

To put simply the NRL say...f**k you

Well 34 pages of the evidence in the breach notice statements made from Scott Seward. A man who had dodgy invoices with his signature on them when $225,000 of Counterfeit bulldogs merchandising. If we are guilty I'm happy to accept the punishment and at this stage it looks like we are.

But the nrl is back peddling big time. Why something is not quite right.

lol, Greenburg gone from a tough no compromise CEO to a backflipping spineless coward overnight in some's eyes. I am sure it is probably legal advice but surely they should have got that before handing down the penalties? This administration is clearly going to put the welfare of the clubs before any sense of justice, long term planning or equity. Something many on here have slated the AFL for over many years.

Yep. The same bloke you dills had on the payroll last year to check all was OK with the cap and he gave you the green light.

His "expert analysis" isn't holding much water at this stage.

Yeah they're the ones that look stupid in all of this...

Not excusing anything we have done. But Greenburg has said on numerous occasions that whilst the 5 board members remain at the club we would not accrue points. Now they have come out and said there appears to be a misunderstanding and they meant once the court matter is done. That was never ever mentioned and it was simply the board members must go our we don't accrue points.

Why lie and say they never said it? Either they have got legal advice or there may be some issues with the evidence they have gathered and it might not be all accurate. If they have got legal advice why not come out and say after receiving legal advice our position has changed. And now they want sewards statement to remain confidential.

Who cares? The fact is Parramatta are at the bottom of the table on zero points and after years of systematically cheating the cap they've got nothing to show for it.....not even a spot in the Top 8. That's what I meant by "stupid".
