Raiders owner Mark Davis was asked Wednesday at the NFL owners' meetings about his thoughts on Oakland's trade of receiver Amari Cooper to the Cowboys now that he's had so much production on the field the last month for Dallas.
The Cowboys traded their 2019 first-round draft pick to the Raiders for Cooper in October. In Cooper's six games in Oakland this season, he had 22 catches for 280 yards and one touchdown. In his six games in Dallas so far, Cooper has 40 catches for 642 yards and six touchdowns.
"In the future," Davis said, "we might be saying, 'Damn!'"
Davis said he's not surprised by Cooper's success in Dallas "because he was a great, great player. We always had the fastest guy on the field no matter what. I think [my dad] would have loved Amari, but it just didn't work out in our system."

With three games remaining in the regular season and the Cowboys appearing poised to make the playoffs, they could be looking at a reunion with a former player.
NFL Network's Jane Slater reported via Twitter that the Cowboys are discussing the possibility of bringing ex-safety Barry Church back to Dallas.
Church played for the Cowboys from the 2010-16 seasons and has spent the last two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars before they released him on Friday.
If Church clears waivers with no team claiming him within 24 hours from his release, the Cowboys could then negotiate with him.

Sammie Coates has been given chance after chance in the NFL despite failing to produce consistently. The former third-round pick was traded by the Pittsburgh Steelers before his third NFL seasons to the Cleveland Browns after two underwhelming seasons and a very public Twitter feud with Martavis Bryant over the role of rookie JuJu Smith-Schuster. He spent the entire 2017 season with the Browns, but caught only six passes. He had been a member of the Houston Texans for most of this season, but had only one reception and was released earlier this week. It would have been fair to assume that his NFL journey was over at that point, but his tantalizing athleticism has enticed another team.
Calvin Watkins of The Athletic reports that Coates worked out for the Dallas Cowboys on Friday. It is hard to take that news as anything other than pessimistic for the potential return of Tavon Austin. Austin injured his groin earlier in the season and has been out for several months. But he had been practicing in a limited capacity and the Cowboys outwardly hoped that he could return to the fold before the playoffs. With only two weeks to go, bringing in Coates seems to indicate that they don't think he'll be ready.
Coates has the one thing that Austin has always brought to the table: speed. His official time in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine was 4.43 seconds, but he has been timed lower than that. At Auburn, he was treated almost exclusively as a deep threat for that reason. But he doesn't have a similar physical profile to Austin, and therefore wouldn't be used in exactly the same way. Austin is only 5'9'', whereas Coates stands much taller at 6'2''. Physically, Coates looks like a No. 1 receiver.
But he has never been able to play like one as a professional. His routes are inconsistent, he drops passes and he didn't fit into the Steelers locker room particularly well as the Bryant spat proved. If anything, the Cowboys would be signing Coates for depth. They have operated just fine without Austin offensively recently, and they won't try to fit a round peg into a square hole. Coates is not the gadget player that Austin could be for them, so they will likely stick to Jourdan Lewis as their designated jet sweep recipient and Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup and Cole Beasley as their top receivers.
Beasley isn't healthy either, but he practiced in full on Thursday and should be fine for the playoffs. That would be the only explanation for this beyond Austin pessimism. Some wide receiver on the Cowboys roster is in danger for the postseason. That is why they'd bring someone in so late in the season. In all likelihood, that player is Austin.

Coates had a great month or so filling in for Bryant years ago, badly broke his fingers then never played the same again, decent special teamer. The crap with Bryant was all Bryant. Worth a look to stick on the end of the roster.
