Coaching Update

A rare hello to you all.

I was speaking to a member of the Dragons coaching staff over the weekend. HE was telling me that when MArk Riddell was signing up they told him the following.....

Director of Coaching: B.Smith
Head Coach: D.Anderson
1st Assistant Coach: P.Sharp

Gee Parramatta and Brian Smith must be an aweful place to be if all these people keep coming back........

Well, with the signing of Marcus Perenara, PJ and the possible signing of Leuluai it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.......

make sence!

well kind off! some questions remane unanswered.

* what would happen to Jason Taylor who's been spending more time assisting Brian than in the marketing department under Edgey! I guess send him back to the marketing department.

* Was Wilso pushed???

* Will Rocket stay??

* will Matt Cameron, Kieron Dempsey, Craig Catterick and Mark Horo keep their jobs?

A major restructure is probably taking place as we speak!!

So are you seriously telling me that Brian will no longer be Head Coach?

interesting times ahead!

I actually believe PB I think and feel something is happening but I just don't know what and I also believe that a select few namely the Riddler, Hindy, Tahu, Caylo and Marsh know whats going on but are sworn to seceracy.

If I could put a bet on this, I'd be putting my cash down in large amounts.

The surge of Warriors players either coming or linked to the club is a dead set giveaway.

I also thought the special mention given to "coaching staff" in the Hindmarsh media release suggested there was more to be announced.

now this might explain a few things.....

and in my eyes a change is as good as a holiday and poor old Smithy needs a breather orchestrating things from behind the secens.....??? ;-)

but if we don't watch it we will have more coaches and assistants than players ;-)

From a corporate point of view its absolutely the right thing to do. Whether Smithy deserves another year or not, the fact is, he has lost a lot of the support of the fanbase and the dismal crowds at the backend of the season prove it. Were he to stay, it would mean the club would continue to be under the intense pressure to perform from the word go next year, which is not going to be easy with the number of new players who are going to have to gel. Two or three early losses and the Sack Brian Smith media circus will start again and the team doesn't need that.

Whatever anyone says about Smith he has turned Parramatta into possibly the most professional club in the competition, and as coaching director we're assured of that continuing. Daniel Anderson seems to be pretty popular with his players, as is Peter Sharp and it will bring a level of freshness to the club that we probably need. I think it would be a glorious situation.

Well I wouldn't say that is 100% correct....Ando completely and utterly lost support at the Warriors this season (not all players, but a large portion - obviously many like him as it appears they might be following him to Parra) - I have no idea why or if it was his fault in any way, but he had major problems.....I'm not saying he wouldn't be a good coach, but he has had some trouble of late....Sharpie seems to be a popular bloke and he will have got some good experience with Melb this season.

filthy_spammers - I've gotta hand you the "Most Objective and Well Spoken" supporter of the year award....while many of us stand on each side of a fence and throw rocks at eachother, you hold your head high and speak with intelligence, knowledge and composure - and your website is cool

I have a heard a strong rumour that Daniel Anderson may be the coach of Parra next year with Smith going to a Co-ordinator type role. Its only a rumour but I thought I would post it anyway. It would maybe explain why players like Josh Davis, the Perenara brothers and PJ Marsh have all been linked with Parra. My tip is that he may be in an assistant role soon with him taking over when Smith's contract expires. It actually may be a good idea. Our senior players know Anderson and would be comfortable signing long term contracts post- Smith.

I do not want to gloat......actually yes I do. Since last Wednesday Hindmarsh and Cayless have re-signed. PJ Marsh is officially about to, even though I tipped this about 6 months ago in another topic. Should I changed my name to Nostradamus?? :D :D :D :D :D

if you must

I must admit you've been rather accurate lately in your predictions.

 Nice work Avenger. Also PB and indeed everyone who's tips have been on the money. Love getting this type of information (well, when it's accurate, anyway!)

And thanks Strider. I can't seem to find a blush emoticon.

having 3 former first grade head coaches at the one club all with a high level of input just seems like a little bit of overkill to me.....and add to that other assistants and hangers on

the old saying of "too many cooks spoil the broth" comes to mind????

but i hope they damn well prove me wrong........

and 1eyed eel, your website is good and an excellent resource for summarising all the media reports and you do have good opinions and observations and well doen to Strider for saying so

however, some objective observations can also sometimes border on sitting right on top of the middle of the fence that we are all throwing rocks over at each other, if you know what i mean - taking a stance and sticking to it is also a good option in some cases ;-)

Some of the succesful clubs today have similar set ups, admittedly usually two people though.

IE, Melbourne, currently have Sharp working with Bellamy.
Penrith have Peter Mullholland working with Lang.
Roosters of course have gus in the director of coaching position and the tigers also have it with royce simmons.

Perhaps we're taking it to the next level.....I'd see the head coach working with the assistant on the first grade team, with the director overseeing the entire structure down to the matthews cup side.....and if thats how it would work, I'd see some merit in it, kinda like having a technical director (for the soccer fans).

There was that talk a few years back of smith going into a director of coaching position and overseeing the two blues and power as well......anyone else remember that?

yeah i remember that fish eel.....and i hear what your saying

i guess i am just a bit torn on the idea, as i said it may be a bit confusing for the players to have so many high level coaches getting around

but - i have also said that any change may be a breath of fresh air and may be useful, so i just hope it all turns out successfully

and i agree that other clubs have a similar set up - but the club this year (apart from Gus and Sticky at the Roosters who always seem to perform well) with the most similar set up, with coaches and assitants everywhere is Manly - and they have not set a good precedent for anyone??????? :?

The big difference at Manly though TE is that the 'coaches' who have taken over were a strength and conditioning coach with limited top grade coaching exposure, a commentator with Matthews Cup experience and a talent scout who hasn't coached for a long time looking for a job for his son and a forwards coach who never coached anywhere outside of the bush.

Maybe the players are coming beacause they knew Brian wasn't going to be coach.

Anyway, this setup sounds great to me.
