I'm sorry, I might cop some flak over this but the whole "Depression" thing sounds like a copout from Darius at this stage.

He's been dealing with it badly all season - and that's at the very least (I'd hazard a guess this has been an issue for him for a very long time). It's been insinuated by pretty much everyone at the Knights.

Pretty elaborate and long-term plan, complete with checking into rehab, just to do $1500 worth of damage to a hotel room.

sorry but its all a ploy from Darius & Wayne.

Darius plays the depression card, sits out football at Newcastle for rest of the year, eventually the knights will release Darius for "family reasons" & he will sign for Brisbane. Keeps him happy & plays for Wayne.

the Hotel thing has been done for a story to the media & a legit reason to go to the Rehab centre.

using the depression/mentally ill reason results in no-one questioning Darius saying he is faking it etc, because its a touchy subject. he'll obviously get all the support from his family, the club, fans and RL public hoping for a speedy recovery & return to the NRL.

the sad thing is, there are legit ppl out in this world who suffer from depression and need all the help they can get & sportstars use this as an excuse to get out of a situation they dont want to be in.

guarentee that Darius will not be playing at Newcastle next season (nor a NSW club for that matter), will be back at the Bronco's

I'd hazard a guess that crying during halftime of a game over 2 years ago wasn't unrelated to this either.

You're a f**king moron. Boyd has options in his contract that he can leave if Bennett isn't coach. He doesn't need a release.

He'll be diagnosed with a syndrome, i.e. an excuse for his behaviour, and all will be forgiven.

Chook.

Haha, you take the cake as the biggest idiot so far. Which in the last couple of pages is a pretty momentous achievement. I take it your full title is not Dr Sime, Clinical Psychologist?

As said above, he doesn't need a 'release'. Why in the wide world would he concoct a story, actually check into a clinic etc when all he needs to do is say I'm off to Brisbane? It's not like he's a guy who needs to maintain a positive PR front.

FFS, do some research or don't speculate and make accusations when you have no idea. He doesn't have to come up with some elaborate plan to get a release from the Knights. He has a clause that allows him out of his contract when Bennett leaves. He's free to do whatever he wants...follow Wayne or go to the bloody Amazon.

Secondly, I don't think Boyd would be one to care too much about his image and make up a fake mental illness just to look good. In fact he seems to thrive on being disliked.

Thirdly, all year Knights players and club officials have been insinuating he isn't in a good place mentally and has been dealing with a lot off the field. Should we just dismiss those signs or has Bennett and Boyd had them in on their elaborate plan all year too?

And finally, a lot of his behaviour is consistent with depression. The oversensitivity and subsequent anger - oh and the crying in the dressing sheds - are tell tale signs of depression.

Suffering depression doesn't give you a right to act like a tool though - I genuinely hope he gets better and the rehab helps, but the guy's still a dickhead and always will be.

Im not Boyd's biggest fan but I hope he gets all the help he needs. He definitely showed signs that depression is an issue he has.

Sensible post is sensible.

Depression is a serious and debilitating issue. Those of you who have not experienced it, thank your lucky stars because it's not nice, at all.

Some comments and attitudes on here - Dead set deplorable.
