Playing for the Knights is dangerous for your mental health. First Joey, then Patterson and now Boyd... Kick them out before they can damage more young men's lives.

Says the supporter of the club that brought you such mentally stable individuals as Todd Carney, Josh Dugan and Blake Ferguson

Edit: And how could I forget the dog f**ker himself, Monaghan!

Barba, Hoffman, Milford, surly Bennett can't bring Boyd, not good about his mental health issues though; my guess is he'll end up at the Bulldogs.

Don't have to be a mental giant to play League, or write about it for that matter, Boyd has obviously been led around most of his life and his new found insecurity is depressing for him. Funny to a f**kwit, understandable to a reasonable person and disastrous if you've been there

Well said, every single word.

Hope he gets some help, wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Thaiday on the news last night seemed very sincere when saying that they don't need another fullback and i don't believe he was thinking that Boyd could play on the wing, but rather that he just didn't want him there.

Boyd would be stupid to opt out, his next deal is not going to be close to the size of this current one you would think. Especially if hes not playing FB.

FFS, do some research or don't speculate and make accusations when you have no idea. He doesn't have to come up with some elaborate plan to get a release from the Knights. He has a clause that allows him out of his contract when Bennett leaves. He's free to do whatever he wants...follow Wayne or go to the bloody Amazon.

Secondly, I don't think Boyd would be one to care too much about his image and make up a fake mental illness just to look good. In fact he seems to thrive on being disliked.

Thirdly, all year Knights players and club officials have been insinuating he isn't in a good place mentally and has been dealing with a lot off the field. Should we just dismiss those signs or has Bennett and Boyd had them in on their elaborate plan all year too?

And finally, a lot of his behaviour is consistent with depression. The oversensitivity and subsequent anger - oh and the crying in the dressing sheds - are tell tale signs of depression.

What he said!

This news really does shine a different light on his situation, attitude, performance, etc. With this clear context on his state of mind, it now makes much more sense.

As others have said, first and foremost I hope he gets the help he needs and gets his life back on track..where ever the track leads. It will be interesting to see if, once that is sorted, he finds his mind changes on staying or leaving Newcastle.

In his present situation, having the support network of family and friends that can help him deal with and manage his illness is probably going to be a principal consideration and I don't think he would have that here in Newcastle...but who knows.

Regardless, I hope he finds the help, support and coping skills that allow him to manage his condition and get on with his life in a positive way into the future

Mate, he doesn't really have that anywhere. He has no family to speak of whatsoever. The closest people to him are Wayne Bennett, George Mimis and Alex McKinnon - his coach/sole father figure, his manager and his best mate.
