The only way we would be able to think about signing David Fifita, is if we could manage to offer him a big TPA's. When Tedesco signed with Easts, the newspapers reported that he signed for 700K a year. Just last week or so, it was said that Tedesco is on 1.3 mil including TPA's. That is the kind of TPA's we have to source to compete with the likes of Easts, Brisbane, Melbourne etc.
We have nearly the lowest amount of TPA money in the NRL.

Not so, we will have JDB money 550k, if Graham leaves at the end of the season there is another 500k, then with the exit of Latimore, Allgood, Robson and possibly Timm or Kerr.
You could be right if all the ducks line up in a row. Latimore and Robson are gone already, Allgood should go but what happens there depends in some ways on what the decision is about Timm. Graham I think will stay one more year although I don’t think he should. Counting the JBD money looks good on paper, and will eventually come into play in all probability, but it cannot be used until the case is concluded and the NRL have not given us too much leeway. Mary has indicated that the case will still be going when next season begins. That does not allow for a big name player being signed......yet.

Fifita would be a good pickup however, unless we terminate De Belin's contract we won't have room under the cap. It would take both De Belin's and Graham's money to gain Fifita's signature.

I'm hoping Leilua and Ford will plug the De Belin gap next season and doubt very much that Frizell is on the move; he is contracted long term. I think we are good for backrowers but short a good prop and that is why I have said on other threads that RCG would be a nice fit for SGI.
Edges have been weak this year too. Need some better outside backs. They leak too many soft tries. Some of the kids look like they might be worth some time though.

Fifita would have to have rocks in his head to come and play for us....won't happen...we will more than likely get some reserve grader on his last legs...Coach welcomes the experience of so and so...will be the press release.

Who was the gun signing we made 41 years ago?

Hilariously - this guy...
MITCH BRENNAN SHAKES OFF THE 'MICKEY LANE' RUSE
In 1978, Saints finally signed stylish three-quarter, Mitch Brennan but not before the controversy of the 'Mickey Lane' incident.

Steve Edge and Mitch Brennan after the 1979 Grand Final.
Possessing a amazing turn of pace, Mitch once trialed with North American Football team, the 'Toronto Argonauts' in 1975 and was offered a contract. However, visa restrictions meant that Mitch had to return to Australia and Rugby League.
In 1977, the promising Brisbane Souths junior was invited by coachHarry Bath to trial for Saints at Grafton.
Because Brennan was in negotiation with Brisbane Souths, the decision was made to play Mitch under the false name of 'Mickey Lane' - a pseudonym invented by coach Harry Bath who borrowed it from a British street name. Unfortunately, Mitch was recognised and the NSWRL were not amused. A fine of $500 was imposed.
He finally signed with Saints in 1978 and immediately showed his worth when he was awarded the 'golden try' award in the 1978 mid week cup (he also won this again in 1981). He would go to be the club's top try scorer in 1979 (16 tries) and play in that year's Grand Final victory.
After leaving Saints for South Sydney in 1981, Mitch would represent Queensland and gained further state honours while playing with Redcliffe in 1982-83.
Mitch finished up his First Grade career with Canberra before retiring at the end of the 1988 season.
