All games should be live on radio.

This is where a "use it or lose it" rule needs to be applied.

No good talking to puppets about it though. There is one group out there that no-one ever asks - the club sponsors.

I'd like to see more input from the sponsors - they should ask for more collectively - like FTA tv and more radio coverage. All Gallop & News Ltd's deal making does is screw over sponsors and fans.

The fans are vocal but ignored. If the club sponsors took up the cause maybe someone would be forced to act.

The thing I find amazing in the whole radio rights is, the NRL don’t want the Super Radio network calling the game, but they want the Super Radio Network to pay 2GB for its call and broadcast 2GB’s product on the Super Radio Network. I couldn’t imagine that happening in any industry.

To argue that the NRL is reliant on the $1m that 2GB pays for radio rights is ridiculous. If you add up the NRL’s TV revenue (pay, FTA, overseas), sponsorship and merchandising, what percentage would that be to 2GB’s $1m contribution be to the rest of the income? I would hate to think the NRL is $1m from going broke. Considering how mush it would have cost the NRL to set up the NYC.
David should have a long hard look at the catchment area of the Super Radio Network. That is one big Rugby League region that is missing out on Rugby League coverage when the ABC chose to cover other sports.

The NRL would be mad to give 2sm and the Supernetwork any radio rights due to the terrible image and reputation the place has had in recent times. Lets look at the departures from the place and newspaper reports and surely this has to have an impact.

Hughes is past his best anyway, bulldog AM not enough to cut it anymore.

Yes, rugby league's image is served brilliantly by 2GB.

I also love how 2GB pay for AM exclusivity on Monday nights yet refuse to call the games.

Thanks for putting the fans first NRL. We are forever grateful.

Love the use of sarcasm there, Brutus.

well as i predicted (if only I could be so accurate with them damn lotto balls!) when it came to expansion we got:

We don't get the Tv deal because we are not a national comp

We don't have any plans to expand into WA or SA

Now I'm no donald trump but surely any business savy person can see that if you have a chunk of the market not being covered by your product and it is costing you huge income opportunities then you do something about it?

Did you happen to see the weather on sunday. It was absolutely pissing down until shortly before the game. We generally get a pretty reasonable crowd down there but the weather and being the ch9 game would have had a big impact. Had the game been played in Perth in similar conditions all you would have seen would be seagulls.

And lets get realistic about this. The game will only ever have marginal following at best in those states. Their culture is AFL. Sydney's culture is league and everyone wants to take the game away from the cultural roots and give it to somewhere that doesn't want it.

TBH the ground is a dump and if I had known it would have been that bad and seen the weather forcast I wouldn't have paid $30 to sit in the rain either!

re Perth you have no idea how many would have been there and the value of having the likes of Melb and Perth is in what effect it has on sponsorship and TV $'s, not if they can draw 25,000 to each game (though I would hope that if Perth were in a top of the table clash we would have got at least 15-20,000 to the game regardless of a bit of rain)

I beleive this is just rhetoric to shut supporters up.

But if it were the case, what is the NRL doing to change this? OK teams in each city not in the short term (I'd like to see Perth though) why can't the NRL work on FTA coverage to get the game exposure that would surely match what the Swans and Lions rate in the north. Why no coverage similar to what Channel 10 use to broadcast into the southern markets? But no the agenda is to "dumb down the game". No matter how much we whinge until News is out of the game RL will always be screwed.

What f**ks your News Ltd conspiracy is that Ray Hadley and 2UE were excluded from the first exclusive radio deal in 2000. These exclusive radio deals seem to me to be John Singleton’s close friendships with the ARL

And now that Roy is a lot more powerful than he was back in 2000, the NRL is running scared of both of them.

Roy is a nothing who thinks he is a someone. The parrot and him run a full on campaign against the Labor Party at the last state and federal elections which got them nowhere. Everyone I know who follows Rugby League, never listen to that crap. They’re only talking to the same audience who listen to 2GB through the week. The thing I like about the parrot’s show, is I only have to listen to the Macquarie Network News on 2KY of a morning and every half hour, I get an update with what was on the front page of the Telegraph and what’s parrot’s angle for the day.
