I know there's already some commentary on his move to SFC in the signings thread but I reckon the deal deserves its own thread.

By far the biggest signing in Australian Football history. Bigger than Rush/Yorke/Fowler/Kewell. Its impact can already be seen on this forum with some of you who have never been to a HAL game saying you will now attend a few. This is fantastic news.

Yeah it's great. We will never keep the best players in the country or match the money on offer for the top players. This will be huge for the league. This is the type of signing marquee players allowance should be used for.

I can honestly say, they will sell out atleast one or two games this season, cant wait, the only player that top this for me would be Thierry Henry coming here.

Amazing signing for Sydney FC and great for the A-league. Hope to see this generate a big jump in interest in football in this country.
I cannot wait for the season to kick off

I still can't believe this is actually happening.

Still not done yet as the contract hasn't been signed but if it comes off the WOW.

If this doesn't deserve it's own thread nothing does. It's epic!

Just when I thought nothing could get me even remotely interested in the Gay-League, this happens...

Can't believe the insular morons on TFC. You expect that of fumbleball fans but not RL fans.

Such hypocrites. Call Victorians insular but then come out with that dribble in TFC.
That's the whole joke of that board. They are no different to the victorians they bag in their level of insularity (if that's a word). 10 brain cells tops over there.

Huge signing if it comes off

I don't I've ever clicked on the fight club once in the whole time I've been a user at LU. Seriously, what's the point? Why waste your time? If you think a sport sucks, why devote your time to talking about it so much?? anyway...

Only heard about the signing on LU (am US based), but has Australia ever actually had one of Pele's 100th anniversary best players list! I'm a Mariners fan, but Huge signing!

Not as a permanent player. I'm guessing Romario was on that list but he only came for 4 games and was basically shit. Not sure if Ian Rush or Robbie Fowler were on that list either.

Unbelievable signing. I actually laughed aloud when I heard that Sydney were in the market for him. Norton Street will explode if he signs.

Alessandro Del Piero joins Sydney FC in A-League coup
BY: RAY GATT From: The Australian September 04, 2012 6:40PM

ITALIAN superstar Alessandro Del Piero will play in the A-league after agreeing to terms with Sydney FC.

An announcement is expected to be made at a press conference in Turin at 11am tomorrow (7pm Sydney time).

Sydney FC officials are understood to have clinched the deal after long drawn out negotiations that took almost a week.

Del Piero is believed to have signed for $2million - a record for a player in any football code in Australia.

He is expected to be in Sydney to meet his new teammates within the next two weeks.

The former Italian international and Juventus star is regarded as the biggest signing in the seven-year history of the A-League.

I'd say they might try and televise the presser on Fox Sports News.
