What you are sick of is irrelevant.

He does not play semi finals football on Sunday. That is relevant. He could play for free and it would not matter.
It was revealed he'd play if we qualified for a Grand Final. Also, only one of the 8 other finals matches is played on Sunday, this year it was our bad luck that we got scheduled then.

Anyway, the fact his contract value was reduced due to when he could or couldn't play is directly relevant.

Thing is, his contract wouldn't have been reduced by much... $50 to $80k at absolute best?

You can't sign an NRL quality replacement player for that sort of money who is willing to sit around and wait for Sunday games so that he can get a gig.

Basically means you're left with shifting someone else there and filling in the gaps which is what happened this year.

It's a rubbish set up and I can't believe that Des agreed to it. Bet he wouldn't allow it again if given the opportunity to start over.

Its how you end up with a retiring Sam Perrett playing FB(and getting demolished) in a do or die finals game.

A report a few weeks back had him on a contract worth only 120k a season. That's pretty small coin for someone who played Origin only 12-18 months before that contract was agreed to, IMO.

That is amazing news. Fantastic.

Fact remains though that we lost because our fullback decided not to show up.

do you actually "get" sports. The end game is not for you to have a social life on a forum or your supporter groups. All decisions should be made with a premiership in mind!

Does a player missing Sunday's mess with team cohesion?

Yes. Do not sign. End of story

What? Hopoate on $120k a year?

If that is who you are referring to, where did you read this report? In the Beetoota Advocate????

I think Hoppa playing Sunday if they made the GF is worse. Basically saying "if you lot can do the work to get there I'll certainly rock up for the glory and premiership ring."

God must see the importance of GF day though so he'll make an exception? He'd be back on his bike ringing doorbells if I were Des.

Agree.

If he sits out every Sunday you'd at the least admire his devotion even if you don't agree with his faith.

His message that he'd play GF makes him a hypocrite and selfish and you really have to question his motives and faith.

There is a bit of a weird "born to rule" mentality about some of the Dogs fan base. Like it's their right to buy up the competition and win all the time.

It seems to me they real complaint is that losing is boring.

I bet lots of Sharks fans were as "bored" as Doggies fans this year.

DON’T worry about the fact he refuses to play Sunday football for religious reasons ... Will Hopoate was actually the best-value player in the NRL this season.

We can reveal the star fullback earned only $120,000 this year at the Bulldogs.

That’s all coach Des Hasler agreed to pay the devoted Mormon because of his refusal to play football on Sundays.

While the club and Hopoate were getting heavily criticised for accepting his demands to take Sundays off, no one knew how it was heavily factored into his contract earnings.

And no one knew that had the Bulldogs made the grand final, he would have agreed to play.

Despite missing four Sunday games including the season ending semi-final loss to the Panthers, Hopoate played 21 games for the club.

And most weeks he was close to being their best player.

It works out at around $5700 a game — far less than what the rest of his team mates and his fullback rivals earn across the NRL.

Next season his contract will increase to $150,000.

There is talk Hasler will have discussions with Hopoate about relaxing his Sunday ban in 2017.

If he does, his contract will be adjusted accordingly.

Soooooo

The Dogs are allowed to sign a bloke to $120k a season who was on $800k+ on his previous contract?

Yet other clubs have contracts refused because they are not deemed fair market value?

So either Rothtool is spinning another alcohol induced yarn, or Greenberg is still alive and well in the halls of Belmore.

What sort of god makes a rule that his/her followers can't play Rugby League on a Sunday?

LOL yep it's all a pro-Bulldogs conspiracy theory. That's why we're now 12 years without a trophy (you've won two and should have had two more in that time).

But it's all about the Bulldogs :joy::joy:

See - I agree with this. The concept itself is ridiculous. But if the Dogs have opted to pay him a pittance as has been reported then fine.

You have gone full genius if you think Hopoate signing for $120k is not complete double standards and getting favourable decisions.

Thats if its true of course.

And the fact we have won 2 and you have won none is simply an indictment on your club.

Indictment? :joy::joy:

It's f**king football not war negotiations JFC

As for "favourable decisions" and "double standards" - exactly what rules are being bent or broken?

And assuming it's true, can you point out to me where the NRL has refused to endorse a lower-value contract for a player (presuming of course there were reasons for it, like in Hopoate's case)?

So taking 4 Sundays off made a $680K difference to previous price tag? Each Sunday was worth more than his entire 2016 salary. Righto.

Someone is full of shit. More than fair chance its Rothfield.
