Great idea, Sean. Look forward to it.

I've been digging through old copies of the herald here http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/result?q= looking for interesting stories myself recently.

My old man enjoyed the Pioneers of RL book I ordered for Christmas too BTW he read it in 2 days. He's stolen my copy of The Master too.

Two days! He sets a cracking pace!

The Trove site is a great advance - would have been useful when I did the original research for 1907-1910, though they really only have the SMH up there so far that is of any real use - hopefully they will add something like The Referee sports newspaper one day (I've suggested it, but sports is way, way down on their priority list unfortunately).

I'm a little behind the times here, but I have personally had plenty of benefit from Sean Hagan's work. I bought the Rugby Rebellion book some years back now which was always a great source of information when discussing football with friends. The only other book I have enjoyed so much is Paul Keating's biography! (Don't slam me for that, please).

Another excellent purchase were the RL1908 baseball caps. I bought one for my father and I and although mine is now very tattered, you may still see my dad wearing it around Castle Hill. The beauty of the cap it is not an in your face NRL supporters cap - more the 'thinking man's' RL cap :)

Look forward to checking out your work once again.

Regards.

From Monday RL1908 will be posting messages each day about news & other happenings in RL, in real-time, as if this year was 1908 not 2012.

These will be posted on http://twitter.com/RL1908 & on Facebook via http://www.RL1908.com/facebook

The idea is that RL fans experience RL history in real-time, and (hopefully from our point of view) purchase our book on RL 1908-1910 via http://RL1908.com/

If it proves viable we are intending to do other seasons from RL history, and RL1908.com will be revived as the main portal to access each season etc.

This is an experiment that may be brilliant or may implode – I don’t know. But I hope you might give it a go, get involved in RL history & take a journey back in time.

Messages from 1908 will be posted on http://twitter.com/RL1908 & on Facebook http://www.RL1908.com/facebook

[My general RL history tweets will now be via http://twitter.com/tribe13_]
Sean, this is an epic concept and I love it.

If you want a hand mate, just email me anytime, I'd be happy to help.

Thanks eelandia. You raised an interesting point - will RL fans wear gear related to the RL code generally, or will they only buy gear related to their club, maybe rep gear, & nothing else?

Thanks mate - it might come to that. Main idea at moment is to try and see it where it leads. I'm limited in my IT knowledge, but who knows what will come of the project.

It's great. Reminds me of that WW2 twitter account updating the war in real time.

Yes, I've seen that. It doesn't seem 'alive' enough to get enthusiastic about - they don't interact with their followers - but the number of followers it has says it must be doing plenty right.

There's quite a few historical characters on twitter - some are quite funny, others try to be informative but I don't think they work - some tweet as if alive today [ http://twitter.com/drsamueljohnson is a riot], and others are tweeting from original diaries but to me are boring http://twitter.com/cdarwin

I reckon there'd be a market. the centenary gear sold well and in the UK there is a range of non club related RL gear available

Although a big Parra fan, I find the designs of most club related gear more suited to kids. I may wear it in the comfort of my home but rarely in public.

I often giggle at cyclists, for example, who look like they are dressed for the Tour de France, yet are probably just going up to the corner shop for bread and milk :)

Generic support of a code is more me, but that is just me. In saying that, whenever the Eels make a GF my house is adorned in blue and gold inside and out for the big day, so I am certainly not averse at showing my support.

Defensive?

Relax. You take things way too personal.

You have the NRL version in your sig file. The Dragons version says differently. The clubs generally don't control the NRL website entries.

IMO, each club has a right to determine their own heritage.

Sorry if this upets you to the point of it dominating your sig file. Quite frankly, I think you're better than that.

Sure they do mate what a cracking idea, make it up as they go along re write history just like you do. Reach for the sky start claiming 25 why stop at 16.

is there any way you can sell others as e-books

im desparate to get a copy of the history of rugby league clubs

...omg

Am definitely looking at e-books as an option asap. I would expect the club histories (updated) to be a good chance as first up.

i still regard the history of rugby league clubs book that i got for my 16th birthday one of the best presents i ever got, full of information and a great read

I've got a copy of that too, loved reading all the info on the early clubs like Cumberland, Glebe, Annandale, Newcastle Rebels and University, along with their emblems and colours!

I'm enjoying the twitter posts so far. Don't know whether I will enjoy reading about Souths winning the premiership, though...
