Did Jake Mamo deserve his punch?

Should have been a sin-bin and if it was up to me, those type of punches would result in season long bans.

Unfortunately, the NRL set a dangerous precedent years ago when they charged James Tamou with a Grade 2 striking charge for a similar incident.

That precedent has since seen the likes of Jennings (Origin 1 2012, Grade 1 Contrary Conduct) and Trent Merrin (Origin 2 2013, Grade 1 striking) receive lenient punishments for similarly dangerous acts.

All three were sent to the bin, and Billy should have as well but the punishments should not have ended there.

I haven't seen enough of Mamo to comment on his behaviour. From what I understand, he's acting like a grub who's constantly trying to cause fights on the field. Hopefully he gets it out of his game, he's too talented a player to get caught up in that rubbish.

Neither of them were as bad as what Brent Tate did on Bird and got away with.

Then what's the disagreement here? Btw knights fans didn't start this thread, only thing we have issue is (besides the inaction of the officials) is morons you think coward punches are all good

Notwithstanding this near indecipherable post, it is also moronic to support the deliberate injuring of a player, just because he is a threat to your football side. The Newcastle Knights, and their fans, should be the first club to have learned this. But it is evident they did not.

Jamming a players head into the turf, long after held has been called, sits in the same territory as a punch from behind. Both can result in similar outcomes.

Are you seriously trying to compare a king hit to a tackle that happened to McKinnon or Thurston during the course of play? Seriously?

You're comparing apples and f**king goldfish.

Most definitely.

The issue is the level of pre-meditation that has gone into Scott's act. It may not be openly spoken about, but everyone knows Scott was under instruction to pressure Thurston and push the boundaries of illegality. Rick Stone or one of his delegates has had a quiet conversation about this tactic and Scott has gone on the field looking to put the plan into action.

For some, they might applaud it because it harks back to a time when taking out the oppositions best player was standard practice. But it stands in stark contrast to a heated moment when a player hits someone who is being a jackass on the footy field. Sorry, but you cannot argue the possible results of both actions are wildly different from each other.

Courts take a pretty dim view of pre-planning when an illegality is committed, and I see no reason for our game to be any different. Clubs, or players who engage in this behaviour should be punished severely for this kind of behaviour. It is a horrible relic of the games past thuggery.

Ask yourself, how would the game view Beau Scott if Thurston was injured like McKinnon?

The same way they viewed the Bromwich brothers after the McKinnon tackle. Chris Housten played the Jordan Mclean role in the tackle on Thurston.
You keep calling it a hit as if they were face to face, which shows you still have no idea what you're talking about. It was a classic cheap shot by a moronic thug.

You seem a bit simple to understand the nuance of what is being outlined here, and definitely willfully ignorant of the capacity for foul play of your own players.

No mate, you're resulting to calling people stupid because nobody is having a bar of your obvious reaching attempts.

At the end of the day the f**kwit is lucky he did it on the field because he'd be up for criminal charges right now if it was on the street.

No one supports the act of hitting from behind.

Well except for the following people

In the Interstate grand final the other day, Jake Mamo acted like a complete pork chop.
For his trouble, he copped a big punch from his opposition. Did he deserve his whack?
My opinion....if you f**k with the bull, you get the horns.

Deserved for sure.

Yes. I haven't seen proper vision yet, but it sort of looked more like a swat or a palm than a clean punch????

I wish he squared up to someone and threw the first one, to then be put on his arse.

Why is there no poll!?

Nobody feels bad when f**kheads get a dose of karma.

Just because you don't like his answer, it doesn't make him wrong.

Personally I find it disgusting you are suggesting that Scott putting pressure on Thurston is worse than king hitting someone in the back of the head. McConnachie's actions could have killed Mamo. There is no comparison between the 2.

Continue to deflect mate. One of your simpleton Queensland mates will come in to defend you and that king hitting cretin mate of yours. Probably using the same false logic that you are.

Mamo deserves a smack, but not blindsided while other blokes are holding him.

Heard he has signed with us in 2016, hopefully he leaves that shit in reserve grade.

Absolute morons. The guy's nickname is Madness and he king hit someone while his teammates were holding him. Says it all really.

What's a nickname got to do with it?

How many punches has he thrown in the last 2 years for you to draw that conclusion?

I am not condoning what he did, not at all, but drawing a nickname into it is ridiculous.

I'm not basing it on his nickname. I've heard he's a loose cannon and the nickname probably confirms it. Even if it doesn't though his actions in that game do.

Unfair. They made a new rule because of Gallen who hit him twice as hard as he could, but couldn't drop him. They haven't made many new rules because of one players actions since alf tripped with one hand holding them.

I've heard you don't know who your father is and your nickname probably confirms it.
