Did the American public get the exact same telecast as us?

If so, they really should have helped the audience out by explaining the basics and the reason for penalties. It was an introduction for many of them after all, and they were probably sitting there confused.

When the superbowl is televised in Australia, the commentators do a good job of explaining the game to us...I just hope the lack of info didn't turn off some US TV viewers.

I like that black American sideline commentator (Chandran?). He used to be a Tomahawk apparently.

The game we saw here in Australia was a telecast off Fox Sports World which is a US channel, so everything we saw was a feed off of their broadcast. Robert Balachandran was a Tomahawk until around a couple of years ago.

I think it was a great telecast. They didnt overcomplicate things and the American commentators were a very insightful. Overall very slick.

Balachandran showed genuine excitement and appreciation when Carroll put on a big hit on one of their forwards....his reaction was intriguing.

I just wished Daley wouldn't make dumb arse comments...

"That's what we call in Australia a 'Room Service Bounce'."

Am I the only one who has never heard that used? What an idiot!

I'm really glad that Channel Nine didn't pick up and commentate the game. Smith and Daley, whilst not the slickest commentary team going around, were exactly what the game needed. They made jokes, they chatted about things with the American ring in, and they didn't let their own patriotism get in the way of a good commentary. Had Nine covered the game we'd have had Fatty praising the Aussies at every turn, and undoubtedly Gus Gould would have been there telling everyone that the game was a waste of the Roosters' talent.

Did anyone else find his comments during the tri-series counter productive? He continually bagged out the English side's players, claimed Adrian Morley was their only decent player, and used the time slot to promote his own agenda. He's interesting at times, but please Nine, keep him away from international games.

Re Gould - 9 please keep him away from ALL games. We dont want him commentating at all.

I often agree with Phil Gould on his articles in the paper but thats about it. Each time I see him on TV he gets more and more annoying. Why is he talking about the international game, he has never done anything in the international game.

I think the only good thing about Ch9 Perth being the ONLY Ch9 (and subsidery - eg: NBN, WIN, ect) in the country not to show the Tri-Nations was that we weren't subjected to Gould's 'commentary'. I never used to be worried by it, but as the 2004 season went on, I became less tolerant of it.

I had to go to Mum & Dad's place to watch the games on Foxtel, and they broadcast the UK commentary. Incidentally, that Mike Stephenson is really annoying with his "this'll be a T-R-Y" or "I think you'll find this will be a N-O-T-R-Y" ... like the general League public can't spell.

And while I'm on my soapbox: Laurie Daley. He's an idiot. He very rarely says anything worth paying attention to.
That "that's what we call in Australia a room-service bounce" comment was complete bullplop. I, too, had never heard it before in my life, and I doubt I will again - unless he's commentating.
Another thing he said in this Yanks-Aussies game was that there was a push in Australia to get the grid-iron goalposts to replace the traditional 'H' design. Yeah, from him. I remember reading it in either Big League or Rugby League Week earlier in the year. What a tool.

Ahh, I feel better that's off my chest now! Sorry to ramble!
