Did you see any positives today?

As P'd off as I am right now, strangely enough I did see some positives.
The bunch of guys who played hung in there for the majority of the match and as Gould correctly pointed out, not many of these blokes have played a lot of footy this year so far.
To be able to hold the "alleged" hottest team in the NRL right now to 10-8 after 68 minutes wasn't too bad of an effort.

Thought Woolford did some good things.
Dean Young is a positive just being on the field....thought he played well.
Hornby played some good footy today, almost his best game of the year.
Creagh and Scott's defence I thought was very strong.

Thought Hunt had a very good game and has gone ahead of Wicks in my pecking order.
Josh Morris continues to play well, although given limited opportunities today.

The penalty count against us was horrendous but the guys stuck in there.
Some more matches together and digging our way out of a match like that, I believe will bring renewed confidence and spark us.

Strangely enough I don't think it's all doom and gloom just yet, and still think we can win the comp.

Hornby, Wes, Nightingale & Morris all played well...

I thought Hornby , Nightingale and Stanley were good , the rest ummmm . Interesting at the Penrith Game I talked to Willow about concerns I had with the modern trend of putting the ball down one-handed .

A mate was saying to me, it's actually harder to do what he did than place the ball correctly.

Mind you, I fail to see a difference between the Brett Kearney try a few weeks back and Head's no try.

Imagine we are 2 points behind in a grand final with a minute to go and one of our guys took an intercept ran under the post and dropped the ball putting the ball down one handed . Blood in the streets is my guess . FFS players do the basic skills properly and the rest will follow .

One positive is that we actually started the game well.

I don't think that.

I think Wests didn't turn up for 60 minutes, then decided they needed the 2 points and had a crack.

I also think Wes was rubbish. He was defending in the forwards for a while too if I'm correct.

Nightingale played well though, and Hornby had a great game. Young was his usual best and so was Creagh. The rest leave a lot to be desired.

Really??? i thought Wests actually turned up without Marshall and had a fairly bad halves pairing trying to do what Marshal can do and it not working. Thought Wes went ok personally, if he has more game time in that position he could be dangerous running around amongst some tired forwards. To me there were some plays that showed the dragons of the last couple of years at full stretch, including the shortside play and the 5th tackle option on the 5th that Houston mucked up. Few costly errors and penalties were quite annoying but i think that was our best game of the year. Woolford definitely was an assest, hopefully next week after some more training he will be more match ready. Also have to say only a fool would take Hornby out of fullback, almost forgot how brilliant he is because of the time he has spent at 5/8th & half. Nightingale was good, seemed the Tigers didnt want to have much to do with Morris running the ball back. Dont think the season is lost yet, its getting close but as has been pointed out i think the bottom 4 spots will have lots of teams competing for them. BTW can anyone tell me why Creagh is runnin through the middle of the field and Ryles is more on the outside, should be the other way round, Creagh is dangerous on the fringes where he can run over the top of the defenders and get offloads.

I was actually pleased with the performance for the majority of the game, but again not doing the simple things right let us down. In addition I felt that generally speaking there needed to be more fire in the belly. Opportunities to finish them off arose but didn't happen.

Having said that, though, our halves combination, and set plays need the kind of on-field stability we haven't had through so many injuries, and this performance showed a lot of promise for the rest of the season, if we can mantain the same player combination.

I found 1 positive, the schooners at Homebush Bay Brewery are 40c cheaper than inside the ground.
I don't think anybody really played "well", it was just that some did what they're employed to do, and the rest were disgracefull.
FUNDAMENTAL FOOTBALL.....When I started playing football in '65, the first things I remember doing at training were learning how to tackle, play the ball, HOLD the ball, and how to put the ball down over the tryline.
Two hands, and put it down as soon as you cross the line. surely, with the accuracy rate of today's kickers, five metres closer to the posts means SFA.
I've been saying since the start of the year, play fundamental football, and the rest will fall into place because you're doing the basics right.
IT'S NOT THAT f**kING HARD !!!

^ So true Preacher. Do the basics right first and the fancies will follow naturally.

I also think Wes was rubbish. He was defending in the forwards for a while too if I'm correct.
Personally i think Wes played very well yesterday. For his size, he's one of the toughest players we got. Let's be frank with ourselves, with the exception of Ben Creagh, our forwards have been nothing but flat. Look at the energy our forward pack had in the last 3 years. Look at us now.... No go forward, no energy. Way too many props.

Yeah, there were flashes of flair in the game. But how long did the ordinary Tigers outfit keep us inside our own half in the second half??

Yesterday the dragons had no heart.

Other than Hornby and Nightingale, the rest of the team jogged around the paddock half@rsed and only did enough to stay in the game. Then when the tigers turned it on, the dragons packed up and went home.

Never thought I'd live to see the RED V pack it in . They are as a group "shot ducks" and it's hard to see the mental disintegration being addressed in the short term . One thing I would suggest they do is play very basic wet weather type football , full sets etc and play their way back from the cliff edge that way .

They defended well at times but the volume of defending took its toll in the end. They bring it all on themselves every week - dropped balls and penalty after piggy-backing penalty. So often the Tigers got a free ride into our half for lingering in the ruck or creeping inside the ten. In an instant any pressure that might be applied to the opposition is transferred to us - and it happens on a consistent basis. When you've got half a dozen props on the field the defence will give eventually.

Head's f*ck up was the turning point. Theoretically recovery was still possible because the clock showed 36 minutes left, but in reality there would be no recovery because the confidence meter was reading zero. Head's already fragile mental state shattered into tiny pieces and the rest of the team crumbled with him. The team is in a hole and little things like that only make it deeper. They were never digging out after it.

Umm positives. Hornby, Nightingale, Morris, Scott, Wes, Creagh, Stanley. Ryles worked hard but marred his effort with mistakes.

Godz, honestly, I thought Ryles absolutely STUNK yesterday. He played like a bloke heading to Premmies. I thought he was BAD, real BAD.

My sentiments exactly.

People have been singing his praises this year, and I've kept quiet, but I thought he's been rubbish for most of this year and a hindrance in the past.

His occasional good hitup is inconsistent, and I don't see him put hits on the defence more than once in a game. I saw one of his hits yesterday, which was on a back. I saw another hit he tried to put on against Cronulla which he injured a heart string in. I just don't see the guy use his shoulder in a tackle.

He had about 3 reasonable games in the start of the year, and that's about it.

I've had swipes at him before hand, and people have gotten pretty heated at me about his performaces but I honestly don't see it. Overpaid for what we get out of him.
