That’s because the game isn’t played in slow mo. Laurie passed backwards out of his hands and the running momentum makes it “float” forward. I actually remember the commentators blowing up about it for a fair bit

It was borderline but you’ll definitely see a lot similar let go this year, no doubt about it
Of course ...and the winning team gets the nod too ...can’t explain why they just do...so we have to be that team

It’s just finding landmark lines on the field that you can use to Mark where the passer lets it go and where the catcher catches it- nothing else matters ..This was one of the tougher ones for me to see coz 1 Brookes was partially blocked from my view and Laurie ran forward after he passed the ball and there was no cross field lines close by ...even without the programs slo mo (which in fact made it look worse) just finding those landmarks you can see it was forward but yes there was no need for that call at all ...It was like a making up for a forward pass not called earlier

The Tigers can’t wait for the next superstar in waiting 6 or 7 to come along. We have had Brooks on the books for too long now and at 26 he’s not even going to be the late bloomer.

Is Jackson Hastings going to be the saviour? He has just turned 25, played 60 games in the Super League since leaving Manly but who knows.

Canberra have done well with the UK recruitment, George Williams is nothing flash, he doesn’t have to be, he’s the perfect link between the forwards and the backs. Brooks has the forwards this year (once Garner gets the flick) so maybe!

I just had a look to see how Jackson Hastings was going but the comp has started yet. It doesn’t even look like he’s (as yet) listed as a preferred 6 or 7 as well.

Going through the teams and their respective 6’s & 7’s though, it was interesting to see some old Tigers.

Firstly looking at Luke Brooks, he turned 26 in December & played 149 games now

Catalans Dragons – Josh Drinkwater 28 years & played 112 games since leaving the Tigers I bet he’s learnt plenty playing with James Maloney.

Huddersfield – Aiden Seizer 29 years old now and just like Brooks, a bit iffy.

Hull – Josh Reynolds, dare I say, he would have been a better option than Brooks.

Leeds – Robert Lui (yep still going around, one of the better partnerships with Marshall that the Tigers had) he’s 31 now and played 128 games in the Super League since leaving the Cowboys.

Salford - Tui Lolohea, Tui is only 26 plenty of chances but couldn’t hold down 1 spot, better bench player than Mybe though IMO.

Wakefield – Jacob Miller only 28 played 184 games since leaving the Tigers – remember when he was going to be the next big thing for the Tigers? Sheens threw him into 1st grade as an 18 year old.

Warrington – Blake Austin 30 now.

Maybe a POM is the way to go but there's a number of former NRL players keeping a local out of their top team so perhaps the locals are not that good, who knows.

I could never understand why we let Blake Austin go?

I thought Hastings (who would be my pick) would have only just arrived back in UK very recently, I'm sure he would have a clause in his contract (like all of them) that he would get a release if he got a NRL gig?

Jackson Hastings would be another Mitch Moses IMO just less talented. Too ego driven

we really, really missed the boat on Flanagan / Burton

There really isn’t many great halfbacks running around at the moment, and the ones that are, are locked up long term at their respective clubs

We are here to be competitive in this years comp, I will take whatever player can help us get there?

To me a second hooker is more important than a utility player but I can see your point.
Mbye can fill dummy half, maybe not as good as a specialist, but in a pinch he can do an acceptable job in the halves, centre’s and fullback. There’s some value in that. He’s not gonna excel but will do a job.

But at what price? Cleary correctly identified that we needed a fullback, a half and some decent props. Then he went out and spent a bunch of cash on Reynolds, Mbye, Packer and Matulino which we are still paying for now.

I'd prefer to sit back and see how things play out with between Souths and Adam Reynolds. There might be a James Tamou style opportunity brewing there.

I think you’ll find that Hartigans thoughts on that subject - a new half / Reynolds accelerated after Brooks performance last Sunday. If so it’s a huge positive that Brooks frailties were laid bare and inevitably we lost...

I just can’t buy that. If there’s a sniff that Talau can multitask in the forwards and backs then he needs to be that guy..Accepting an old guy with a busted ankle who has no up side except filling the spot is just a bad culture. Mbye was shit at 6, 9 no better, 7 who can only guess and fullback Nofo’s got that covered if needed. Also 9s going to be a whole safer conversation with Simpkin and Liddle in the 17. Talau although slow can sniff out a try, has a good long pass, a big body, is young and keen and he can play 6.
The same old will get u the same old esp re the spine

Also Walters will be back round 7. He can fill any holes if any form or get bigger by then.
Walters is on about the same level as Mbye and believe it or not they’re the same age, Mbye has about 150 more games under his belt.

The most pathetic member of our squad.Totally useless. Not worthy of being anywhere near our 17.
You wouldn’t have him in the team if you had someone else, but if he is used off the bench to cover injuries he can play a role. He can play at least six positions in a pinch. We don’t really have anyone atm who can do it. Three big boys and a utility is the best formula for a bench. Two rakes is an absolute waste and caught us out probably five times last year.

He can’t f**k too many things up in wet conditions out on the wing.

Send Brooks out to the other side.
Brooks is predominately a left side attacker by formula, but I reckon he should be allowed to play both sides in the oppositions 30. If he doesn’t do something this season he is gone.

Talau won’t see the forwards for a few years yet. He should be in the starting side. I think Kepoa can probably play centres, wing, full back. Just think that we need to cover the halves and hooker. Two hookers on the bench is a really shit idea unless the one on the bench can adequately cover half, 5/8 at least. Walters can probably do it but he is really no better than Mbye

I don’t disagree but you’ve got to have the cattle in your paddock to make those plans we’ve still got 25 games to go this year.

Brooks’ kicking game really hasn’t improved at all, his long kicks are ten metre too high and 20 metres too short every single time, and his short kicks near the line need to get through the defensive line, he was abysmal in this respect last week, and has done it too often throughout his career. I was all for giving the kid a chance, but now he’s a man and his lack of development is killing the tigers
