The dialogue may have been ordinary in the original movies but you still developed empathy for the characters. You genuinely cared about what happened to Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia. You cheered on Wedge Antilles and Lando Calrissian. You were genuinely upset when Obi-Wan Kenobi got cut down. You could relate to them through what I considered some fairly decent character development. They had chemistry.

The prequels failed to achieve that utterly. I couldn't care less for Anakin Skywalker and his "romance" with Princess Amidala was awkward at best. Accomplished actors like Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor, Ian McDiarmid, Natalie Portman and Christopher Lee had very little to work with. Some characters you would utterly loathe such as Jar Jar Binks, the Trade Federation leaders and General Grievous (a droid general who coughs, wtf?). There was no feeling and it was far too rushed. It felt like I was watching a video game intro. The originals had heart, the prequels had none.

Your points are valid for a new hope and the empire strikes back. Return of the jedi not so much, full of cheese.

Watching them now, I don't feel any empathy towards the characters, the wooden acting and dialogue just don't make them seem real... As a kid, that is completely different. But Lucas really is a pretty terrible director and writer. It's only more apparent in the later movies.

As for the indiana jones movies, I only really enjoyed raiders of the lost ark... Didn't care too much for the others and kingdom of the crystal skull is just laughably bad.

If anything, Disney may bring some credibility back to Lucas... Not the other way around.

I thought the newer 3 movies had far more cringeworthy moments and dialogue than the original 3.

The first two films were good, but then shit went downhill with the f**king Ewoks.

Taking all of the important roles out of George's hands is probably the best thing if there were going to be any more movies. And the way that f**k continually meddles with everything I think there was a 100% chance of more films, even without Disney's involvement.

Maybe the new movies will be tied in to whatever the live action show is supposed to be about.

The Empire Strikes Back is, hands down, _THE_ best of all the Star Wars films because Lucas had ZERO input on the screenplay. Sure, he came up with the story but the words coming from the actors was the work of Lawrance Kasdan and to an extent Leigh Bracket.

This is a very good thing. The Star Wars universe in the hands of competent directors has a lot of potential.

Lucas can tell a good story and was a technical visionary, but a competent scriptwriter and director he is not.

Yes the first thing you should do in preparation for a nuclear holocaust is climb into your fridge. Don't forget to store an ample supply of Dr Pepper and brussel sprouts with you until the fallout clears in a few years time.

I've never seen crystal skull.... but I think I may have to now. That 90 seconds of footage has me crying with laughter.
