Display Our Trophies

My brother made a good suggestion. Why don't we display our Premiership Trophies somewhere in view on game days. Some Soccer teams in Europe do it. I think it would be great to see. It might even inspire the players. What do you think?
I think it's a great idea

Presumably there'll be trophy copies. Put them in the Legends Lounge at Jubilee. Media coverage. Heritage confirmed.

Its easy to dismiss someone as a troll when you are faced with the inconvenient truth, I don't go for Cronulla, i will use The Cowboys as a comparison if it removes the hurt for you, i have been following St George since 1966 & was there when we won in 77 & the last of our premierships in 1979, i also saw St George/Illawarra win their first GF in 2010, don't blame me for what the NRL has done.

You can think as you like. As we will. 16 Premierships. No one can convince me I'm wrong.

How? The analogy is spot on, such a meaningless & lazy statement you made

Easy mate, just don't look at the post, i would suggest by the replies someone does gives a rats arse, what ever that means. Didn't realise that freedom of speech is a problem here, i would suggest you look at the in depth article in todays Telegraph, encapsulates what i am saying, the St George that i have been following is no longer, the Illawarra mafia is in control of the football side of things & not for the better, mediocrity is alive and well at this club & for some reason you are portraying me as a problem, i want my club & its history back, no big deal.

I can sympathise with your point of view.

Its one tangible we always have enjoyed. Our history.

It depends on how one views the JV as to whether or not to include 2010.

Agreed, according to the official records, St George ceased in 1998, this is my contentious point, why aren’t others upset & the continual snubbing of our history, really irks me that we are grouped with The Cowboys & dare I say it, Cronulla as having won 1 premiership, the club should be fighting more for this. The cynic in me suggests that Illawarra are happy with this ?

I've followed Saints for 64 years. Even after the merger they're still Saints as far as I'm concerned. Maybe I'm reading the records incorrectly but I think it took Saints 33 years to win their first premiership whereas it took the merged club 11 years to do so. Maybe we'll get another 11 straight soon! I certainly don't forget our glory days and I can't believe that anyone who follows, or works for, or plays for the club can or should ignore it either. It's one of the great records in all of sport! We merged with one of our satellite clubs 22 years ago. Now fellas: look at the trophies, feel justifiably proud and get out there a get the next one.

20 years for first premiership, I too follow them and refer to them as Saints, I guess you can create whatever is convenient, I repeat the NRL uses our history when it suits them but lists StGeorge Illawarra as having won 1 premiership, 20 behind South Sydney, after all that glory we are 20 premierships behind South Sydney!

I don't know when the counting of premierships starts from but, as far as I can see, Saints formed in 1910 and their first premiership was 1941. No doubt there's some other subtlety in the history of the competition. Personally, I don't particularly care what the NRL says. If they say the merged club has only won 1 premiership, well, that's a fact. The NRL can't rewrite or delete history though. Any serious supporter knows Saints have won a ton of premierships. So, I agree with you WTC. If the NRL publishes some sort of record of premierships and they exclude the records of pre-merger clubs, then I think that just doesn't pass the pub test.

The article in the Telegraph points out that there is not 1 St George junior in the roster, a first for the JV & maybe in St Georges history as well, concerning.

I didn't know where to post this so I decided to post it on this thread.

Souths have won more trophies than any other club and with Tech billionaire Mike Cannon-Brookes buying 25% share of Souths and with Russell Crowe and James Packer having 25% shares as well, the club is very likely to be up in the top 8 for years and winning further trophies.

We have old Bruce with his piddly sums singing his own praises and not giving too much away to have the St George Illawarra joint venture be top tier.

We may have well stayed with Illawarra as JV financial partner seeing WIN seem to contribute as much as the broke Steelers did, we are rapidly losing our identity, no wonder the question was raised in the media, who are the Dragons?

This guy is a serious player. It's pocket change for him, but for Souths, a real statement.

To think, not that long ago ( it seems ), they were kicked out of the competition. They owe George Piggins big time.

I'm not hurt by anything you've posted. And who's blaming you for anything?

If you're not trolling, then it looks like you can't accept different points of view.

IMO, comparisons with Donald Trump and crying free speech are not helping your argument.

Bringing up juniors, referencing News Corp isn't relevant either. In the modern game we don't have residency rules and clubs win premierships with few or no local juniors.

I agree that there are some trying to take away our history, perhaps fighting against this would be a better approach, rather than joining the chorus of doomsayers.

It is a Joint Venture, that means it comes up for regular review - used to be every 5-6 years. And in that, the joint venture partners can decide their future which can even include dissolving the JV if the circumstances come about. Currently, the JV is between St George and WIN Corp. Yep, that's right, St George exist within the JV framework... they have never ceased to exist.

We had a third grade team in 1910 but our first game in First Grade was in 1921.

Calling it a merger is incorrect, it's a joint venture (explained in my previous post).
