I honestly think the media harping on about Sandow never playing finals has brain damaged some people.

The following players in our team have played finals for the Eels:
Mannah

The following players in our team have played finals for the Eels more than once:
-

Corey Norman has only played in one game of a finals series in his preferred position for the broncos and they lost and is only a couple of seasons behind Sandow. Much of a much.

Sandow’s problem is he played for the laughing stock of the NRL of the last decade (2000 to 2010) in the Rabbitohs before they rebuilt and came straight over to the next laughing stock of the next decade in the Eels (2010 – 2020).

When we finally make a finals series in a few years you can look back and blame Tim Smith, Hagan, Kearney, Stuart, Chris Sandow and whoever you want to make you feel better, at the end of the day the problem lies with the soft culture of the team. In regards to the culture of our team, I think a better question than this thread is: How does Watmough go from a revered origin forward at Manly to having the impact he has now at Parramatta in the space of a few months?

I'm not holding my breath for Beau Scott yet.

I still don't see why we can't put Kelly in the 17 ahead of Alvaro. After all, it would be 2nd tier player for 2nd tier player. I'm struggling to see how a club ran two forwards, a half and a hooker on the bench a month ago is now getting a 2nd tier cap exemption to play four forwards on the bench. It makes no sense if it has to be like for like players.

Then, just start Kelly and put Sandow on the bench and just don't play him, or play him for 1 minute at the end of the game.

Tell me how is this any different than the way we're using Alvaro?

Because, assuming that the NRL treat Sandow as an available player, we can only get a 2nd tier concession on the basis of a like-for-like swap. Mau is suspended, so if we've got a fit top tier or already used and counted 2nd tier player who can play back-row.....we've got to play them first.

If the NRL treat Sandow as unavailable....different story.

There are suggestions Sandow would be stood down. But under NRL rules, Kelly, who is on a second-tier contract, can only play NRL if there is an injury or suspension in the halves.

Because Kelly is a half, and we don't need halves we need forwards. The NRL will allow dispensation only for what you need. It isn't as easy as what you're suggesting.

That still doesn't explain how the NRL has let us go from two front rowers, a lock and a hooker on the bench and they're replaced with 3 front rowers and an edge forward on the bench? What happened to this like for like replacement?

While I don't condone what Sandow has done, I think his frustration at his coaches ever-increasing tactical ineptness is understandable. You can bet your life that there are other players at the club who have massive questions marks over some of Brad Arthur's decisions this season, as his list of tactical blunders grows by the week.

that's rubbish, he was well respected before he came here and he has attracted players to the club

Or for Foran. It takes more than one player to turn this ship around. Starting tho think Ricky Stuart was onto something when he wanted to sack half the roster. Maybe he didn't go far enough.

My theory is because Choc isn't 100% focussed because his heart is not in Parramatta - it's still at Manly.

His efforts to get Snake here reinforce that to me - he's not 100% happy here, regardless of on-field results.

It's probably not as far fetched as it sounds. At the end of the day, he had no real reason to come here other than the cash.

I really think we need to be seriously looking at Snake. If we are looking elsewhere I'd like to know who that is, because are they really going to be a better option than Snake, given that we will also have Watmough and Foran at the club.

I think getting Snake for two seasons while French develops would be great.

Watmough's playing busted, and mentions a few of the different surgeries that he'll have at the end of the season in the SMH article about his 300 game milestone. Unless this season picks up suddenly, I'd even be letting the guy take a few months off toward the end of this season to ensure he has enough time for recovery before 2016.

I think we should chase Stewart on a two year deal. If it makes Watmough and Foran feel and play better, then it would be a good investment.

Isn't Snake similar to Watmough? He isn't at his prime anymore and is getting injury prone from memory. I don't want to see us as Manly's dumping ground.

I reckon we are close to having the core of players needed to effect the necessary culture shift from soft quitters to hardened fighters...

You need a core of 10 players that you can build the rest of your squad around - the players that others see as leaders, both on and off the field.

For mine, in 2016 we have this 10 (in no particular order):
Foran (c) - probably
Scott (c) - maybe
Radradra
Norman
Watmough
Mannah (club captain, not onfield)
Hoppa
Peats
Junior P
Ma'u

These will be the guys that will do the 1%'ers and will show the young'ns how to close out games and not quit.

Add to this 10 players like Taka, Tepai, Wicks, Alvaro, Edwards and Pauli and buy someone like Gordon at FB and another outside back and you have a competitive top 17. It also gives guys that need to fill in a core leadership group to learn from. Guys like Matterson, Josh Aloio, Goodall, Falou, etc.

This is what BA is trying to achieve i reckon and why he is buying the likes of Scott and Foran.

We don't need Sandow and we don't need Seffa.
