Do we keep Sandow?

Meh. In all honesty we paid overs for a guy (at the time) who we thought would bring some much needed improvement to the side. Most thought at the time it was a good thing and were enthused about him coming to the Eels. Was it a good decision? At the time most would have said yes. However, the benefit of hindsight tells a different tale. At the end of the day it's his job and he earns a shitload more than I do within a fraction of the time. I wish him well but time to move on as we all do at some point.

Don't really disagree with any of this. Woulda been nice to see him behind a good pack of forwards tho. :)

Just saw this article now. its very odd for a bloke in his position to come up with, its not going impress any possible future coaches, & im left wondering who's mouth it came from & if any of the playing group had input. Sandow seems dull enough to be a pawn in an agenda.

Sandow has read the secret and understands what he must do to win a premiership. If the comments he made lead to bigger and better things for him the universe has granted his wish.

The agenda worked in 2009 when anderson let them off the structure

Parramatta Eels tell Chris Sandow he's free to leave after questioning coach Brad Arthur's tactics
Date

Adrian Proszenko

Chris Sandow reckons his style of footy wins games, but he won't be playing them for Parramatta for much longer after being told he is free to pack his bags immediately.

Sandow cost himself any chance of a contract extension when he publicly challenged coach Brad Arthur's game plans on Wednesday. The club is also considering sanctioning the enigmatic halfback for his comments at the inaugural Parramatta Girls Rugby League Day at Richie Benaud Oval, which included: "If he lets me play how I want to play, we'll win more games."

The 26-year-old added: "It's tough because last year I played my own footy under Brad. Something must have changed his mind about how he should play me … I just want to play my own footy … I think it's something people come to watch."

While there has been a falling out between the parties, they appear to be stuck with each other in the short term. The Eels' much-publicised salary cap problems - they were handed a $525,000 breach notice for overspending last year - means that dropping Sandow back to Wentworthville is no simple matter. Arthur's preference for much of this year was to play Luke Kelly at No.7, but the fact the Eels are on the limit for the second-tier cap means they require special dispensation from cap auditor Jamie L'Oste Brown to select him. The Eels want Kelly to play against his former club Melbourne on Monday night but it remains to be seen whether they will be granted permission to do so.

And even if the Eels stand Sandow down for a week for breaching the club's code of conduct, they will probably have to reinstate him in first grade the following round or face the prospect of again breaching the cap and starting the 2016 competition four points in arrears.

Eels powerbrokers have told Sandow he is free to leave before the June 30 transfer window expires. However, they will be unable to force him out if there aren't any takers, as his management will demand he be paid out for the rest of the season.

Arthur was reluctant to comment when asked his reaction to Sandow's comments. "There's no problem with our attack and how we play with the football," Arthur said. "Our deficiencies are all based around defence."

Statistics back up Arthur's view. Figures provided by Prozone show Sandow has missed 41 tackles this season, more than any other No.7 in the competition. The Cherbourg product's tackle efficiency of 78.1 per cent is the fourth lowest of the halfbacks, while he is ninth highest for tackles made with 171.

Sandow is better known for his work with the Steeden in hand and remains a contender for the Dally M medal despite already spending time with the Magpies this season. He is the seventh-ranked halfback for line breaks with seven, ranked fifth for offloads (eight) and third in tries scored with three. However, the huge disparity between his best and worst performances have been an issue for the past three Eels coaches and Sandow's winning percentage since 2013 stands at just 38 per cent.

Sandow had the better of Johnathan Thurston in the clash against North Queensland until it mattered. The Cowboys targeted Sandow's side in defence and staged the third-biggest comeback in NRL history in overcoming a 24-point deficit.

With Kieran Foran and Corey Norman locked in as the Eels halves for next season, Sandow is deemed surplus to requirements. However, there are few halves vacancies at rival clubs for 2016. A return to Queensland with the Gold Coast appears Sandow's best option, but the latest dramas are unlikely to boost his asking price.

Sandow's fallout with Arthur rekindles memories of other famous feuds between halfbacks and coaches. Warren Ryan and Steve Mortimer also had different philosophies on the way the game should be played, while Ricky Stuart and Brett Kimmorley fell out at Cronulla and Origin level. The latter have mended their differences and now work together at Canberra.

I reckon we needed some ball time as the forwards were knackered

I think you have the right of it as well. Cowboys had a monster run of possession and the best option would have been to play out the set then work the corners and ideally find touch.

Instead the 40/20 put greater pressure on the pack because they had to lift for a huge kick chase in which Sandow shot out of the line to create further problems.

Sandow is probably the only half in the game that would have gambled on that option. Even if coming up with a 40/20 is a winning play, the act itself of taking the low percentage risk isn't and that encapsulates Sandow.

Can we all come clean and admit, that if this soap opera was playing out at another recently crappy club like the Raiders or Sharks, we'd all be saying things like "just fold the club and bring in a Perth side, they're a basket case"????!!!!!

Things are getting worse by the hour seemingly...

Well, not me. We suck, without a doubt. But the Sandow thing is not that much of a surprise. He's not the first and won't be the last young bloke to shoot his mouth off.

Time for a mutually agreeable parting.

Cannot wait to see the back of this selfish, ignorant footballer with no self awareness and little self respect. We stood by him when he had his gambling problem. Paid for the rehab and put him back on track and now he still knows best.

We bought you to lead us to finals football but instead you have at least a 50% strike rate with the wooden spoon.

You tenure has been a disaster. Now do us a favour and leave before June 30 so we can give someone an opportunity to do a job that you couldn't do.

You owe us at least that.

It's not just this Sandow stuff coming to a head today. It's the culmination of the salary cap mismanagement, the election circus every 2 years, the on field debacles where we give up a 24 point lead, 2 spoons and a 15th finish in the last 4 years.

I love the club too but NBA franchises I reckon have had licenses revoked and handed to new cities for less in the US!!!!

When it all finally turns around and we win a premiership, my word will it be a deserved day of joy for the likes of us all!

Yes, they are very fair points. And while I have no great love for the people in charge at the moment, from an outsider's perspective most of the salary cap shit derives from short-term desperation applied a few years ago (i.e an excess of back ended deals for ordinary players...or worse). Then the untouchable one decided to f**k off in October. Those with connections to one side or other will keep up their crap, but I don't see what choice we have but to give the current set up till (at least) the middle of next season and see how things are panning out.

EDIT: I should add that if the chaps who consider the club their private plaything can't get their act together, I have no problem with the idea of the club being privatised (at least for 5 years) on the condition that they remain the Parra Eels. But I'd rather see how things go for a little while yet.

Watching Matty Johns show tonight, Fletch asked Hindy if Kelly is playing, Hindy replied I have no idea but Hindy isn't a good liar. So can we win with Kelly or does it even matter anymore bring on the off season.

Here's another article from News. Surely Sandclown will no longer be at the Club by Monday...something must come to a head. In other news it appears that we cannot even pick specific second tier cap players, we have to choose ones indicated by the NRL...

How Seph Paulo can't jag himself a start back in the NRL under this second tier cap debacle is beyond me...
