For what reason?

Because I think freedom of speech is one of the most important precepts of a liberal society and treating as a nuisance we do away with when it becomes inconvenient is a fast track to one form of totalitarianism or another.

Riled?

He did something newsworthy and I searched the forum for the most recent thread pertaining to him.

Sounds like you're itching to defend the guy - go ahead...

I have zero interest in what he has to say. The guy hasn’t played rugby league for 9 years, I have no idea why something he said has any relevance in this forum.

I also had no idea who had bumped the thread, but turns out it was you. Keep fighting the good fight

Tele reported overnight he was even preaching against other Christians. He's gone completely rogue.

I don't know, but it appears that he belongs be a very strict, non-denominational (perhaps), small and predominantly Pacific Island church pastored by one of his relatives. I know that he has been a Mormon in the past and then associated with the Assemblies of God, but then become critical of them subsequently. I actually suspect it's a breakaway from the AOG and their strict 'zeal' is either the cause or the result.

ARU sign a fundamentalist Christian & then sack him for being a fundamentalist Christian...
They actually sacked him for breaking the terms of his employment which he agreed to.

But this instance doesn't violate that precept? It seems you ignored the dot point which followed the one you objected to.

It's a discussion forum and its topical, are you really that pedantic?

Sounds like he's easily swayed.

The freedom of speech argument is flawed because Folau’s bigoted views are still infact out there, freely on his social media pages.

I am pretty sad for the poor young kids who may be trying to come to grips with their sexuality and someone that they idolise continually tells them that they will go to hell.

And how far do we extend that? Are we allowed to say shit about Muslims or Christians when there might be young kids having a hard time growing up in their religion? What about political views? What about questioning things like trans kids and all that rubbish? Is saying atheists will go to hell allowed? What about racist jokes and things like that?

Who decides what hate speech is? Where is the line?

Gonna throw out a wild guess here, probably the nation's Anti-Discrimination Law?

https://www.lawcouncil.asn.au/policy-agenda/human-rights/anti-discrimination-laws

Also, suggesting you're "questioning things" like trans kids and following it up by suggesting it's rubbish is hardly "questioning". It's outright discrimination

This is absurd. Freedom of speech isn't under attack here. Discrimination is.

Just because the two overlap on occasion doesn't mean both are being targeted here.

No one is saying you can't say Merry Christmas, but they are saying that you can't tell homosexuals that they're going to hell by virtue of being homosexual.

Is it sinking in yet?

Well it hasn't yet, but if we wanted to we probably could enforce state action against him. Reckon you could argue what he posted was "hate speech". The laws are on the books.

And I ignored nothing. Ive already said expecting the ARU (or the NRL for that matter) to act in any other way is unreasonable.

Can't? Or you'll do what exactly?

And spare me the "freedom of speech isn't freedom from consequences" shtick. I'm not in any way suggesting it is.

Who is proposing the enforcement of state action against him? I cannot see anybody calling for that at all. I don't agree with it either and I don't know anyone who would.

And... as for 'you've ignored nothing'...

You've been purposely short-quoting multiple posts - which is perfectly fine - but to then suggest you aren't ignoring swathes of points made against you is farcical.

Discrimination how? If you said transspecies and transracial and all that crap is rubbish is that discrimination? How far does that go?

People say shit about Christians and conservatives and Muslims and all kinds of groups all the time. But that’s mostly okay apparently.

Nonsense. Utter nonsense.
Why? Why is calling out people discriminating against minorities "utter nonsense"?

Why is the freedom to be shit to other people so important to you?
Can't? Or you'll do what exactly?

Trying to dismiss the obvious answer to your question because you don't like it doesn't change the answer. The implied conclusion to his post is that there will be consequences for what he says.

You seem to be talking in all sorts of odd generalities without actually citing examples.

I posted a direct link to the Law Council's information on discrimination which should be fairly self-evident.

Nonsense. Utter nonsense.

Don’t be silly. Questioning anything to do with the trans movement is discrimination but advocating for the eradication of religion is perfectly fine.

I don’t mind people doing either of these things, just pointing out the hypocrisy and double standards in this hate speech bullshit.
