Of course it is. Folau has been posting scripture and other religious stuff on social media for years, and the only time anyone has taken issue is when he has attacked a vulnerable group of people that are specifically protected by law.

I believe Folau personally believes what he’s doing is right, but he’s naive and being easily led by the ultra-conservative right, such as the ACL. They see this as their big chance to codify the ability for anyone to discriminate against LGBTI+ people under the guise of protection of religious freedom, something they have been waiting for since the SSM legislation.

I don't disagree that there is a religious freedom element to this discussion, but it is nowhere near as important as the impacts that this situation has on freedom of speech and how much influence that your employer should be allowed to have on your freedom of speech.

Even Folau admitted that he knew his post would offend people. To try to diminish it as just an “opinion” is disingenuous.
