He's been a captain of the club for years and has Grand Final and Origin experience.
I don't think it's too much to expect from him to be something of a leader.

But simply thrusting someone into a leadership role does not automatically make them a leader.

I love Tim Mannah - he represents my club with pride, passion, and genuine class.

But he is not a leader, imo.

I think he is more of a lead by example type who just goes out and gets the job done.
Maybe BA expects him to be more. I think you can teach someone to be a better leader and I guess BA is trying to do so.

I have no idea whether Mannah is a good leader or not tbh. And to be fair I would think that only those who have inside access to the team and how they train and perform on game day could possibly know. Mannah was chosen as team/club captain by three different coaches in his FG career and captained his junior teams as well. There obviously has to be some leadership qualities in there somewhere for this to happen, surely.

If only our club was as ruthless as KIm Jong Un, we'd be top 4 every year !

He's very much like Hindmarsh - works his arse off, never lets us down, a dependable, and leads by example.

But sometimes, you need your leader to do more than that.

Now, granted - that speaks more about the people who chose him to lead, than Tim himself.

But I don't think one can say he is a good leader, when he has seemingly struggled to rally the side around him, to push higher, and get results.

Obviously, one cannot make silk out of a sow's ear, but I believe that - in all walks of life - good leaders push you to be better, and I think it is debatable whether this happened under Tim's leadership.

This is not a criticism of Tim Mannah; he's been an extremely good servant to this club, and I'm glad he is our club captain.

However, I find it curious that the same coach who took the on-field captaincy of him, has now dropped him for not showing enough leadership.

I don't mean to criticise Arthur, either - I just find it weird that he goes so far as to give the captaincy to Gutherson, and then drops Tim for not leading team.

If it was just the on field stuff then yes you could think maybe we have okay leadership but with the last 5 years of our off field stuff thrown in it is pretty obvious our leaders are weak by NRL standards. That reflects on the coach and the culture he has brought in over that period of time who in turn is a reflection of the club leadership.

Leadership. We haven't had a decent leader for years. When the big 4 took the money in the super league years but relinquished the captaincy to a 20 year old N Cayless we seemingly never produced another leader. Heck, the answers are above my pay grade but surely some mofo could deliver something by now.
I know this is the highest of heights but C Smith only has to give someone a sideways glance to extract 110 percent.

Yup.

I, for one, think Cayless was a great leader, and we haven't had one since he retired.

Hindy is arguably one of our greatest ever Eels, but he was no leader.
