Yes we were bad, terrible, shocking etc etc etc etc!! Improvement is needed urgently!!

but gee half the posts sound exactly like the end of 2018 where BA also had no idea, couldn’t coach, our squad for 2019 is terrible etc etc

yet he took us to finals last year (where a lot said the squad wasn’t good enough )

And now a top 4 is a good chance ......

Back in 2018, it was a pipe dream that we could be contenders in 2 years, yet here we are in 2020 as chances, why is that the case?

anyhow yes we need to improve to seriously challenge this year, however we are heading in the right direction, and next year is probably the key to BA’s future (premiers generally hang around the top 4 for a few years before winning).

and really what options are available to replace him? Plenty of coaches struggle with squads similar to ours
Heading in the right direction? We have been going backwards at a rate of knots the last 2 months

Given that no coach stays forever then I guess eventually you’ll be vindicated.

I thought he should go in 2018 but when he was re-signed I figured it was best to back him.

I’m still prepared to see how this season finishes and then re-assess.

If this year turns out to be shit and we fall away I Still can’t see us boning him.

If we finish top 4 then it would be difficult to arsehole him. If we shit the bed completely and finish in the bottom half of the 8 then it may be looked at.

My opinion remains, he is a good man manager, good leader, good at identifying players.
It’s asst coaches that need a hurry up, the difference Barrett made at Penrith, Holbrook and his playing style at the Titans, and I am sure that assts do more than we see on the surface.
That would be where I would address the problem , new voices and structures at that levels.

likely be more effective than changing BA.

Assistants have 1 role attack defence .Your attacking coach has got away from basics first fancy second
Beginning of the year your props where carving up the middle then you hit it wide. Now your props are two passes wide far easier to defend .Then the spread becomes a sideways motion again easy to defend
Go back to basics and you start winning again talent does not disappear

You’re spot on. The astonishing thing is Our coaching staff don’t seem to recognise this, or worse, they have and the players aren’t responding to them. Either way, it’s a clusterf**k.

It really irks me when we have a mediocre time and people say next year will be the key. We’ve been saying that for the last 34 years! If we want to do something then you have to do it now because there are no guarantees on what next season will bring. Who are the other coaches struggling with squads similar to ours?

next year is the key in my opinion as recent history shows it takes a side 3-4 years of making the finals / top 6 to win a comp (see Souths / Cowboys / Sharks recent wins, Storm / Roosters are in a different class). Next year will be our 3rd straight year of making the finals (assuming we do).

Souths / Sharks / knights / raiders all have squads similar to us, and we are still in front of them.

BTW, I aren’t saying our current isn’t an issue ......
