next year is the key in my opinion as recent history shows it takes a side 3-4 years of making the finals / top 6 to win a comp (see Souths / Cowboys / Sharks recent wins, Storm / Roosters are in a different class). Next year will be our 3rd straight year of making the finals (assuming we do).

Souths / Sharks / knights / raiders all have squads similar to us, and we are still in front of them.

BTW, I aren’t saying our current isn’t an issue ......
If you think the Rabbitohs, Sharks and Knights have rosters as good as ours I don’t know what to tell you.

Just to start:

Souths whole spine has origin experience, a current origin middle forward .....a current origin back...plus another back with a Aus rep jumper.....just to start

Raiders are last years GF finalist with plenty of experience

knights have an fullback / halfback with origin experience. They have current origin front rowers. Their lock won a GF and is a origin rep, etc etc their edge forward has 10 origin games. Etc etc

Sharks have graham, Fifita, Johnson, Moylan, woods, Dugan, all current / former rep players. GF winning half. Plus plenty of standard players like us.

What do we have RGC, Jennings and Fergo with rep experience, no one in our spine has played rep footy.

I agree our squad is pretty decent, but we have plenty of standard NRL players just like the above sides but no Where near the experience/rep players.

Yep. Unfortunately premierships need to be built, and that's what we're trying to do. We should be a better team next year. It'll be disappointing if we're not because in 2022 the salary cap will start to bite.

So next year is when BA unleashes those special tricks? What about if BA plays possum and decides to hold onto his secret moves till ‘22?

We did ok in 2017, how did we go in 18? And 2019 we finished lower than 2017.

2018 was a massive failure, and it was good that we fixed it. 2017 and 2019 were the same give or take a win. Both solid seasons, with hope for improvement.

The way we've followed 2019 is a lot more encouraging than how we backed up after 2017. We've already won twice as many games as we did in 2018.

This is all arbitrary. Who says premierships have to be “built”? The Sharks received the wooden spoon and came 6th before winning their title in 2016. The Cowboys came 8th and 5th before winning theirs in 2015. The Roosters in 2013 finished 11th and 13th before winning it. The Sea Eagles came 5th and 8th in 2011. Look at all these teams winning premierships without finishing in the top 4 the prior couple of seasons. You have to take your chance when it presents itself. The fact is the Eels have a chance with the roster they have this season but it looks like it’s being wasted.

On their form over the last couple of months they have no chance.

I have a horrible feeling we'll get to 22 and then he'll move it out to 23. Sneaky bald merkin.

Why do you think it's being wasted? Because we just had an off game and got flogged? At the end of this round we'll still be in third place ffs. We're no less chance of winning the comp after this game than we were before it (other than losing Drown). It should've confirmed for some of you that we're not premiership favorites, but instead it seems to have confirmed that we'll never win another competition in your lifetime. Find the middle ground ffs.

As for your examples, all those premiers built to their premierships. They all had a bit of luck too, just like we're going to need if we're going to win it.

It’s being wasted because the way the team is playing on the field isn’t to the standard required to win a premiership. It should be better given the roster. If you think last night was a one off “off game” then you’re being very disingenuous. I would like to see the team perform to its potential and it’s currently not happening.
What’s your definition of “building” towards a premiership? Explain to me in any those examples I gave how those teams built towards a premiership.

It really irks me when we have a mediocre time and people say next year will be the key. We’ve been saying that for the last 34 years! If we want to do something then you have to do it now because there are no guarantees on what next season will bring. Who are the other coaches struggling with squads similar to ours?
I was hoping i could like this 100 times...

We had previously conceded a maximum of 24 points this year, to both of last year's grand finalists. Conceding 38 is definitely an off game. And prior to last night our lowest scoring game was in round one against one of the worst teams in the comp.

Most of their players played plenty of finals games before eventually winning it. They also had a good amount of legit rep players (Origin and Kiwi internationals).

We are building too, and are a chance of winning this year. Losing Drown is a blow but other clubs have key injuries as well (except for the Panthers).
