It’s ok merkin, sounds like you need it more than me anyways. Keep it.
I doubt thats the case. I wipe my coight with hungees most mornings.

Anyway - stop being a little passive agressive bitch. That's twice now you've tried that bullshit 'don't worry about it' line.

A bet is a f**ken bet and we have a bet which I intend to honour. I expect you to do the same.

We had previously conceded a maximum of 24 points this year, to both of last year's grand finalists. Conceding 38 is definitely an off game. And prior to last night our lowest scoring game was in round one against one of the worst teams in the comp.
Most of their players played plenty of finals games before eventually winning it. They also had a good amount of legit rep players (Origin and Kiwi internationals).

We are building too, and are a chance of winning this year. Losing Drown is a blow but other clubs have key injuries as well (except for the Panthers).
While it’s pleasing to see the defence being up for the majority of the season so far why do we get to hand wave the spluttering attack which has been present for most of the season?
Do you think we’ll have more legit rep stars next season?

This is all arbitrary. Who says premierships have to be “built”? The Sharks received the wooden spoon and came 6th before winning their title in 2016. The Cowboys came 8th and 5th before winning theirs in 2015. The Roosters in 2013 finished 11th and 13th before winning it. The Sea Eagles came 5th and 8th in 2011. Look at all these teams winning premierships without finishing in the top 4 the prior couple of seasons. You have to take your chance when it presents itself. The fact is the Eels have a chance with the roster they have this season but it looks like it’s being wasted.

well history shows sides build into a winning side.

here are are the correct facts:

sharks went 7th, 5th, drug scandal, 6th and 3rd - 5 years to build for win

cowboys went 7th, 5th, 8th, 5th, 3rd - 5 years to build for win

Manly is a bit different, as they were already recent winners in 2008, to get there they went 8th, 5th, 2nd, 2nd - 4 years to build side

Souths (MM inherited a very good squad) they went 3rd, 2nd, 3rd - 3 years to build side.

I don’t rate us in Roosters (or Storm) class/normal rebuilding years.

However even the storm went 6th, 6th, 5th, 1st, 1st (premiers), 5 years to build side before Bellamy won his first comp (and that was a squad that was cheating the bloody cap!!)

not sure Broncos can be included, but they also went 5th, 3rd, 8th, 3rd, 3rd, 3rd. 6 years for their last win

finally, Dragons went 5th, 2nd, 6th, 13th, 7th, 1st, 1st , 7 years before winning

So those sides all had a few years in the finals before winning.

We chopped and changed coaches for a long period between Smith and Arthur.

During which period have we had the most sustained level of performance - when we chopped and changed coaches or when we stuck solid?

I think sticking with BA has helped us become more consistent, but granted he may not go a step further and get us a premiership. On the plus side you'll likely be $500 richer.

He’s had 7 years! SEVEN! I can’t see there being an issue changing a coach after 5 years. Look at his record. It’s hardly exciting. He not capable of getting the team up for big clashes. Although he’s finally assembled a decent squad, he’s made some horrid signings over the years. Even this year his decisions and tactics are hideous. There doesn’t seem to be a plan b. Plan a fails time and time again, yet he stubbornly tries to make it work. We’ve seen issues with the team that haven’t been rectified, season after season. What’s the point of stability if you’re just above average. Surely there’s another rookie out there waiting for his chance.

won a title. Lost a gf. Sacked before BA. Not sure the cows are chasing premierships thou. Maybe they’re chasing unicorns.
So if Green was the reason for the premiership why have they been so shit in recent years? Can he coach or not? If he can why did they sack him? And if he can't the premiership doesn't really say much about a coach's ability.

No but Drown and Mahoney should be significantly better while only Jennings should be on the decline. Hopefully Moses stays fit next year too.

Why did the dogs sack pay and cows sack green? Are they chasing a premiership?

After purchasing several big name players, the cowboys have still gone, 8th, 13th, 14th and now 14th again, it’s pretty clear Green can’t improve the side (along with rumoured issues between coach and players). I expect BA to be sacked he delivered those results.

Pay has been sacked as the dogs now have the same board issues we had (that quick fixes). Barrett will probably be sacked in 2 years too, after he is unable to deliver quick results.

Lol it doesn't worry me if clubs sign coaches for 10 years that won't win anything.

So long as it's not mine.

Jack Gibson coaching record
1967–68 Eastern Suburbs 46 27 3 16 59
1970–71 St. George 49 33 1 15 67
1973 Newtown Jets 26 16 1 9 62
1974–76 Eastern Suburbs 73 56 1 16 77
1978–79 South Sydney 44 21 1 22 48
1981–83 Parramatta Eels 84 61 1 22 73
1985–87 Cronulla-Sutherland 72 31 1 39 43

The whole rebuilding thing is a scam by coaches justifying being signed for 10 years and never winning anything.
Since we are talking about Parramatta lets actually use some meaningful and relevant data. I don't think it supports what you are suggesting at all.

The Chop and Change Era

2007 - 5th, 13 wins, 11 losses (Hagan)
2008 - 11th, 11 wins, 13 losses (Hagan)
2009 - 2nd, 12 wins, 11 losses, 1 draw (DA)
2010 - 12th, 10 wins, 14 losses (DA)
2011 - 14th, 6 wins, 17 losses, 1 draw (Bigface)
2012 - 16th, 6 wins, 18 losses (Bigface and Arthur)
2013 - 16th, 5 wins, 19 losses (Stuart)

63 wins, 103 losses, 2 draws - 37.5% win record.

The Pick and Stick Era (BA)

2014 - 10th, 12 wins, 12 losses
2015 - 12th, 9 wins, 15 losses
2016 - 14th, 13 wins, 11 losses*
2017 - 4th, 16 wins, 8 losses
2018 - 16th, 6 wins, 18 losses
2019 - 5th, 14 wins, 10 losses
2020 - 3rd, 12 wins, 4 losses

76 wins, 78 losses - 49.4% win record.

Key take homes

  • Greater win percentage under pick and stick.
  • Best three seasons (based on win percentages) under pick and stick.
  • Four of the five best seasons (based on win percentages) under pick and stick.
  • The only season from chop and change that is in the top 5 win percentages is actually the first one before any chopping and changing had occurred.
  • Best two seasons are 2019 and 2020 (at the end of pick and stick).

* Ladder position impacted by salary cap

I suggest if we're only just above average the problem isn't the coach. You seem to think Arthur's makes every f**king decision at our club. He said he would've been happy with a ten year extension but the football department makes those decisions just like they make most other decisions. How good is it to finally have a football department. Two straight years in the finals. Arthur's won't be around forever but here's hoping he wins us a comp before he's done. I reckon he can now that the front office is sorted.
