like many have said i dont see us coughing up the funds to pay out BA and pay for another coach - we've only just got the clubs financials back on track, and with now 8 weeks of closure and many more to come of the leagues club, that is no doubt operating at a loss. The money just wont be there (let alone to sign Bennett who would be on minimum $1.2m per season if not more.

I think the best we can hope for is a change in assistant coaches heading into 2022, and riding it out with BA. Unless we win 2 finals games this year, let him know 2022 is his final year so then the players making decisions on their futures have some surety too.
But then incoming players who we would like to sign won't know who the coach is and will be extremely hesitant to sign. If we are not renewing him in 2023 he needs to go at the end of this season.

Everyone wants a star player in the outside backs. No one decent will come without knowing who the coach is unless we pay ridiculous overs.

I agree. That’s the most likely scenario. I guess the next question is whether we’ll have the funds in 2022 to chase someone.

I hope we at least test the market informally before we make any decision to keep BA next year.

Wasn’t it Gould that once described Bennett as the kid at the prom that no-one asks because they assume they’ll say no.

You’ll never know unless you ask!

Kemp / Finch discuss eels:

Supportive of BA (but aren’t saying we are playing great):

- say look at what happened at Broncos / dogs when changing coaches
- we have one of the youngest spines. Drown / Mahoney have plenty of improvement
- cap management/recruitment is good
- players off contract aren’t a huge issue, gives options to sign players
- agree we haven’t finished the season well which has to be fixed
- probably need to sign a back or 2 to go to next level/add strike. However it appears we are looking into that, we did chase Staggs.
- Jennings added some strike to backline

I have considered 2019 onwards where our club has finally had a proper structure in place to support the NRL side, pre 2019 we were a basket case….

BA may not be the right coach leading us forward however in the last 3 years under a professional structure we have finished 5th, 3rd and this year no worse then 6th.

looking at Bellamy’s record at the Storm:

03 - 5th
04 - 6th
05 - 6th
07 - cheated
08 - cheated
09 - cheated
10 - last
11 - preliminary
12 - premiership

Bellamy is a brilliant coach, the best no doubt. However it took him a while additionally the cheating allowed him to get those “superstar” which a few have suggested we lack…..

even the first few years are similar to 2019-2021 Eels.

it’s a tough decision for the board to make moving forward. No simple answer
Was 2006 a gap year for him ?

You can announce your 2023 coach at the end of 2021.

is there really any star outside backs available for 2022? Its looks pretty sparse to me. We'll need to make an appointment on 2023 coaching wise early in 2022, and then start making calls on recruitment with the knowledge in hand (similar to what Cronulla have done this year with Fitzy involved in recruitment despite not being at the club yet)

wow, where did all this common sense come from ?

Am I in the right forum ?
i think with each day that ticks away after a loss, we all get a little more sane, less reactive and emotional. Come Friday we'll be super logical. But just wait until 9pm Saturday.....

I mean for 2023. No player will sign for 2023 without knowing who the coach is. The only reason good players started signing with Cronulla was because they pretty much punted John Morris by telling him he wasn’t wanted a month or so into the season so they could announce Fitzgibnon early on. If we plan on doing that we are pretty much writing off 2022. If we aren’t renewing him f**k him off so we can properly recruit.

Maybe the person we’re interested in to replace him isn’t available until 2023 either though? I’d rather BA than some outside 1 year caretaker coach.

Another bunch of knuckleheads that just swear too much. There’s no need for it.
They did however make some good points.

Lol. You could.
Plenty of clubs do it. I'd say the best run clubs all do. If it's backfired on Parra in the past the problem was boardroom politicians using it to generate drama, in which case we were in a lose-lose situation. Anything we did would've been twisted to destabilise the club.
