Brad Arthur had a much better roster than the coaches from 2010-13. You would hope he’d do better.

Another one of the benefits of having stability in the coaching ranks. You don’t have someone rebuilding the roster 6 times in 9 years.

No they aren’t. It was brought up that our players lacked experience. Many players have now played origin and finals. Now it’s we don’t have enough leaders. We’ve got a squad built that should be pushing any and every team week in week out. What’s holding them back?

Leadership and talent compared to the best squads.

I guarantee you that lack of leadership has been raised for a long time. Merkins on here have been talking about it as a factor for as long as I can remember - right back to the days of Hindy and Hayne who were also shit leaders.

I'm interested to hear from others on the their knowledge of Ryan Carr.

I've heard snippets that he has a bit to offer as a coach. I believe he was considered for a decent Super League gig recently.

What can people tell us about him? Is he a realistically an option to take over from BA going forward anytime in the future?

I reckon if Carr was a threat or a real decent option he would of been punted a while ago. Anyone who has been in our system that has showed promise or maybe seen as a threat were almost straight out the door. Holbrook and Potter are a couple of decent examples.

Holbrook was our 20’s coach and his current NRL performance indicates he probably won’t have a long career….

Potter was such a threat that every NRL club his has been at in a coaching capacity has let him go so far…….he wasn’t even an assistant this year……gee he is 50 plus with a few years at the tigers, not a great threat there….

What other examples are there????

And Carr has already been talked up as a head coach in the UK, so he seems to be highly regard! I WouIdnt be surprised Kidwell was told Carr was moving into his role next year thus he suddenly departure….

Yeah Really, how did Kidwell last as long as he did?? Murphy??? Honesty he would only make our coaching staff. He'd just won a spoon at the Titans but het he was good enough for Bea. Holbrook left us straight into Robinson's system. I mean he wasn't good enough for us but he was good enough for the well financed Roosters???


Up until this season you could argue Holbrook had done a more than decent job at the Tits, their spine is rubbish with no depth and it doesn't help him that he was anchored with a 1.25m lemon signed by fraud Meninga.


Losing Kidwell with us in our premiership window and chasing a GF surely we go out and get the best defensive coach we can?? Our defence still sucks and it has all season instead we promote Carr who has done a fair at best job in reserve grade. Bellamy,Robinson and Bennett surround themselves with the best, Bea surrounds himself with absolute dross. It's the reason he will never be more than an average coach. Bennett's greatest strength as a coach is he know's his limitations and what he needs help in. He's not afraid for outside help, in 2005 he blew up his whole coaching structure even long time Bronco's and the next season he won a comp. Murphy is still f**king here!!! So you don’t like our assistants, far enough but that’s totally different to your post claiming BA let’s anyone go that he is apparently threaten by…….

I think we all agree Bellamy is the best. And the Storm are well run!! Well guess what he won a premiership with Kidwell as his assistant…..

And guess who their current assistant coach is, Kearney who has a horrible NRL record ….while BA now has an “assistant” with a better NRL record in McGregor (who while isn’t an official assistant, is definitely helping out and I believe at most sessions and games…) and Ennis too….hardly an indication of a coach not welling to appoint experienced operators…..

anyhow I reckon merkins on here, rate the role assistants play to highly and overrate their contributions…...

BTW stoping making excuses for Holbrook, he is going terrible….you couldn’t even acknowledge BA inherited a basket case at the eels followed by a salary cap scandal which would “anchor” most clubs/coaches for years, but Holbrook is “anchored” by one “overs” signing (who he has playing like crap!! Last year’s ruck rules favoured teams with speed, which describes the Roosters and Manly more than it does us. That’s why there were so many blowouts. Coaching can’t make merkins faster ffs

Actually sprint coaching probably can, but that’s beside the point.

It’s not that deep. We underperformed during the regular season but had two great games at the end of the season against Melbourne and Penrith. If we had played like that against the Roosters and Manly we would have lapped them regardless of whatever ruck rules they were played under because we had the superior roster.
